What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Flow Motion is already functional. The question is, where shall we go with it?

I want to put Flow Motion in the hands of animators early, so when people have amazing ideas (or find fundamental flaws), it's not too late to course correct.

The list of potential features is vast and ambitious, so it's important to get it right the first time.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“Any answer I put here will be wrong.

The schedule is:
1. Announce Flow Motion Animator <- We are here
2. Release Flow Motion to a couple of animators to create a showreel [apply now!]
3. Fix any immediate bugs found by those animators
4. Launch Flow Motion publicly into early access
5. Test new features and iterate based on community suggestions and feedback
6. Once everything is stable, proceed to the full release of Flow Motion”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Some potential additions are:
- Featuring community animations on the main menu
- Extensive profile customisation (animated profile pictures, drawing a custom theme/design for your profile, custom event animations, like your profile picture can play a “thank you” animation when someone follows you, 'shouting out' your favorite animations/creators on your profile).
- Creating interactive animations like branching stories or quizzes through tappable boxes, button presses, actions and events. Maybe even exporting to exe/html5 to be published outside the community.
- Add haptic feedback (rumble) to your animations
- Animation contests with prizes
- Profile badges/awards for high quality content + verification for recognised creators
- A “backpack” for importing community made assets into your projects.
- Transfer audio/assets/projects between desktop and deck over WiFi + steam cloud support for project backup.
- Downloading your feed in advance for later offline viewing
- Ability to create language pack UI reskins, and share them to the community

There are many more potential ideas up for discussion on the forums, so head over there to browse them and even submit your own!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“It's a portable hand drawn animation tool, with the ability to browse and share creations on the workshop, tested extensively both on desktop and Steamdeck.

But please be patient and expect teething problems while new features are being added.

There are also some buttons on the interface that don't do anything yet, but I wanted to get the layout implemented first, so people don't have to relearn their muscle memory each time new things get added.”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will be increased as more features are added. A free demo version is also planned.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will be taking feature suggestions, and prioritising development on what the community is asking for. ”

Approachable interface

Perfect for beginners

Do I need a touch screen?

No! Flow Motion acts like desktop drawing software, so mouse and keyboard is fully supported. With that said, the Steamdeck responds best to your finger as it is a capacitive touch screen, but for the best stylus experience, you'll want to use a disk stylus:

Community

Access and upload to the community directly from within Flow Motion. Doomscroll your favourite animators for inspiration, collect feedback on your own creations, and maybe even amass a following of your own! Once you've set up your own profile, users will be able to follow you and stay up to date with your content.

Protection from art theft

Metadata such as your username, steamID are baked into your project file, so if someone were to re-upload your work to the Flow Motion community as their own, moderators can easily verify the original creator and take appropriate action against the thief.

Exporting outside the community

In addition to uploading your creations to the workshop, you also can export your flow motion projects to other formats such as mp4, webm, gif, and apng.
