What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“UPDATE: Aug. 20th, 2015

We are fast approaching content and feature complete! There's a LOT of game there to play now. We're working on the second region now, along with a lot of the RPG elements, and the University that acts as the introduction to the game. If you've been thinking about hopping in, and don't want to wait til we're 100% done, now is a really great time to see the game at 90% complete!

Why:

Fat Loot Games is a small team that has been around since 2013. We’ve been developing Soul Locus for over a year and are very excited to have access to the Steam community and a player focused method to continue funding the game as we complete it.

Early Access is one of the best methods available to let folks play our game while still in development. It also facilitates getting feedback on the design and balancing to ensure a great experience for all players at launch.

We are excited to have folks playing it. Thank you for your early support of Soul Locus and we look forward to your feedback!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Soul Locus is expected to be in Early Access for approximately 2 to 3 more months. Depending on balance and feedback from the community, this timeframe could change as needed to ensure a high quality final product.

The primary focuses of Early Access are:
  • Reach out and find our core fanbase and get them involved in the early stages of game development.
  • Get the game to a beautiful, fun and launch-ready state.
  • Make sure game elements are balanced to make for an interesting progression, and to make modes such as Endless appropriately challenging.

You can access development status and more detailed blog entries about what we're working on at www.fatlootgames.com.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will have:
  • The full Soul Locus: Cards of Order story, including all quests, crafting, Soul Guardians and tower defense levels.
  • All supported game modes: currently Story and Endless.
  • Full soundtrack and mastered audio.
  • A beautiful and stable finished game.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Current Features as of August 20th, 2015:
  • 60+ Soul Guardian cards to collect and summon for tower defense!
  • 24+ missions: each with a choice of card reward, plus Endless Mode
  • Numerous player abilities to use during combat
  • Cards level up, players can allocate stats from the inventory screen.
  • Full crafting system to unlock the potential of your deck of Guardians

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan on keeping the price at $9.99 during both Early Access and post launch.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are looking forward to getting player feedback through the Steam Community, both in the general forums, but also a closed players only Early Access feedback forum.”

Defend the world of Dalifor, a land forever changed by the forces of Chaos! You are a Luminary, a schooled defender of Order. The strength of your personality manifests through special cards, from which you summon magical creatures. These Soul Guardians are ready to fight the Corruptors who aim to destroy the world you hold dear!

Collect and craft cards, train your Guardians, and experience the story of Soul Locus: Cards of Order!

Soul Locus: Cards of Order is a collectible creature tower defense game. Dozens of levels and over 80 Guardians will be available at final release, paired with a rich RPG storyline that takes you through the floating continents of Dalifor. Each Guardian corresponds to one of six types of Soul Locus that define its strategic use in game. Build a team you design, and level up your Guardians how you choose. Each is customizable!

Crafting is a key component in collecting all of the Guardians available in the game. Crafting materials will be obtained through quests, at the end of battles or by breaking down other cards. Combining materials lets you discover new recipes for Guardians!

Soul Locus: Cards of Order is the first chapter in a story that spans a world changing timeline for the land of Dalifor. You will meet Chip and Victoria, two fellow students who accompany you on your quest to defend against the Corruptors. Embark on a journey to restore order in the land of Dalifor!

Our team is made up of industry veterans with over 50 years of combined experience. Members of the team have participated in titles from Bejeweled to Bioshock 2 and worked for companies such as 2K, EA, Microsoft, and Popcap. We all grew up playing games filled with exciting worlds and fantastic creatures. Soul Locus is our chance to make one of our own for players to enjoy.
