What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Music at the End of the World is a visual novel with a rich narrative and survival elements, adapted from a novel. I chose Early Access to gradually release the chapter-based story at planned intervals, allowing players to experience and engage with the game as it evolves. This approach can help me to refine gameplay mechanics and improve overall balance based on player feedback since I'm a solo developer.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Due to the valuable feedback I've received, I've significantly expanded the scope of the game with additions such as voices and improved animations. As a result, while I originally aimed for a full release in June 2025, the game will instead enter Early Access around that time. I believe this will allow players to experience the core gameplay while I continue refining and enriching the experience. My goal is to complete the full version within 2025. I’ll be sharing regular updates throughout development to keep the community informed and involved.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“During Early Access, I plan to release the main story in chapters, allowing players to experience the narrative as it unfolds. My current intention for the full version is to include the complete main story along with three standalone side stories that expand the world and provide additional perspectives. In addition to content expansion, the final release may also feature refinements to gameplay mechanics, improved visuals, and quality-of-life adjustments based on community feedback. While the overall structure is planned, development will remain flexible to accommodate necessary improvements and player-driven enhancements.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Because the main story is adapted from a novel, the entire script is already prepared and revised for the game. The story is planned to consist of nine chapters, with the first three chapters currently completed and fully playable. These chapters provide a solid introduction to the game's world, mechanics, and core narrative themes. While this foundation is in place, I may apply additional refinements, balancing, and polish throughout Early Access based on player feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be free to claim during the Early Access launch period and will remain free until the next major update (when Episode 3 is released). After that, it will be available for purchase at a lower price than the planned full release. As development continues and new content is added, the price may be adjusted accordingly. However, anyone who adds the game to their library during the free period will keep full access to all future updates at no additional cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Throughout the Early Access period, player feedback will be an essential part of refining the game. Community input is particularly valuable in balancing difficulty, adjusting survival mechanics, and evaluating the impact of choice-driven storytelling. I encourage players to share their thoughts through Steam discussions, feedback forms, and other platforms, and I will make every effort to incorporate their suggestions where feasible. I plan to provide regular updates to maintain transparency on which improvements are being implemented based on community input.”

About This Game

Shape the Story with Your Choices:

As a new ice age slowly pushes the world toward extinction, witness the experiences of the Narrator, one of the few remaining survivors. In this choice-driven game, you will determine the fate of the character telling the story and how it all ends. In a world on the brink of destruction, where loneliness has become a form of madness, decide what the Narrator will do under conditions no sane person could endure.

You can keep your body warm, but can you protect your mind from the cold?

Experience the winter that brought the apocalypse and the solitude of an abandoned world. The journey of the Narrator, seemingly impossible yet somehow real, is in your hands. Shape the course of the story with your choices. While doing so, try to preserve both the Narrator’s sanity and your own.

Do whatever it takes to protect the Narrator from hunger and cold.

The Narrator’s vital stats may limit your choices or open new paths. Can he fight if he’s not brave enough? Can he stay sane if he’s too hungry? Can he even survive if he hasn’t lost his mind just enough?

Manage limited resources wisely to ensure he doesn’t lose his sanity entirely—or just enough to survive. Search for hidden objects, make the right choices, or simply rely on luck to stock up on food, fuel, water, and other essential supplies.

Uncover the remnants of the old world:

Discover artifacts buried beneath the ruins and junk heaps. Unravel their secrets and experience the stories of a world long gone.

Step into the Narrator’s dreams:

"They say a madman's dreams are just as mad as he is."

Enter the Narrator’s dreams, where each one opens the door to a completely different fantasy world. Experience surreal tales far removed from reality. Make the right choices to ensure the dreams reach their proper conclusions and gain advantages that will impact the Narrator’s true story.

Test your skills in various mini-games, from turn-based combat to high-stakes Wild West duels.

Prove the Narrator’s abilities, earn rewards, uncover hidden objects in the scenes, learn new skills, and use them to overcome the challenges you encounter.
