What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access lets me refine the game with real player feedback while continuing to strengthen the character driven systems and overall experience. The core gameplay loop is already in, and community insight will help determine what areas deserve the most attention as development continues to grow.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect it to be in Early Access for a while. Development is ongoing, and I’m giving myself the flexibility to expand, refine, and polish without rushing the process. I expect to leave early access around 18 to 24 months after launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand the game's scope across all three modes. This includes completing the player facing UI systems (quest acceptance, shopping, inventory management), implementing the City Builder mode, and adding AI companion recruitment mechanics where NPCs decide whether to join your party based on personality compatibility.

We plan to add more content to the world. additional regions to explore, more enemy types, expanded quest variety, and deeper NPC interactions. The simulation systems will continue to evolve based on how the autonomous agents behave and what emergent patterns develop.

We plan to refine combat and movement to feel more responsive for player controlled characters while maintaining the simulation consistency. Visual and audio polish will improve throughout development as we balance scope with quality.

The core simulation framework is operational now. Full version development will focus on expanding what players can do within that framework and adding the traditional RPG conveniences that make the experience more accessible without compromising the autonomous nature of the world.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core simulation is functional and stable. Autonomous NPCs accept quests from the guild hall, gather resources, hunt enemies, and level up based on their MBTI personality types and emotional states. The intent driven AI system operates across 16 categories including survival, progression, economy, social, and exploration behaviors.

RPG Mode supports character creation, world exploration, combat, and skill usage. The same AI systems drive both player combat and NPC behavior, creating simulation consistency.

Currently missing are the player facing quest and shopping menus. While NPCs can accept quests autonomously, players cannot formally accept or track quests yet. The NPC shopping system exists in code but is not triggering correctly. City Builder mode and AI companion recruitment are not yet implemented.

The game is playable as a simulation experience and as a basic action RPG, but lacks the UI conveniences and feature completeness of a traditional RPG. Development continues to expand player agency and complete the planned game modes.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as new features and content are added. The Early Access price reflects the current scope and state of the game. As we complete additional game modes, expand the world, and add player facing systems, the price will increase to match the growing feature set.

Early Access supporters will benefit from the lower initial price in exchange for participating in the development process and dealing with the rougher edges of an in progress game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to use community feedback to guide which features get prioritized and how the autonomous AI systems evolve. The simulation produces emergent behaviors that we can't always predict. Player observations about what NPCs are doing (or failing to do) will directly inform tuning and development decisions.

We plan to maintain active communication through Steam discussions and our Discord server, sharing development updates and explaining how feedback influences changes. Since this is both a game and a research project into autonomous agent behavior, understanding how players interact with and interpret the simulation will shape its evolution.

We plan to be transparent about what's working, what's broken, and what's being worked on. Early Access development will be iterative. We'll release updates, gather feedback on how those changes affected the experience, and adjust accordingly rather than working in isolation toward a fixed vision.”

About This Game

Autumn's Dungeoneering: The Adventurer's Terrarium

A living fantasy simulation where autonomous NPCs quest, fight, and grow based on personality-driven AI. Watch them operate, talk to them about their choices, or jump in and adventure alongside them.

A World That Lives Without You

Xanrea is a persistent fantasy world where NPCs don't wait for player input. They accept quests from the guild hall, gather resources, hunt enemies, and level up driven by MBTI personality types and emotional state - not scripts.

Multiple autonomous adventurers operate simultaneously. Factions exist. Enemies respawn. The world continues whether you're watching or participating.

Early Access Development

The core simulation is operational - NPCs autonomously quest, gather, and fight using personality-weighted AI with 16 intent categories. Sim Mode and Streamer Mode are functional. RPG Mode allows character creation, movement, and combat.

Currently in development: Player quest/shop UI, NPC shopping behavior, AI companion recruitment system, City Builder mode.

This is Early Access - the simulation framework works, but traditional RPG conveniences and polish are still being built. Updates will focus on completing player-facing features and expanding content.

Technical Details

  • MBTI personality system (16 types) influencing NPC behavior

  • Utility AI intent scoring across survival, progression, economy, social, exploration categories

  • Soul State system tracking emotional and physical needs

  • Steam multiplayer framework

What Makes This Different

Mount & Blade meets Kenshi with autonomous NPCs. A simulation-first approach where personality drives behavior and emergent stories unfold from AI decision-making, not scripted quests.

Built by a solo developer as both a game and a research project into autonomous agent behavior.

Game Modes

Three Ways to Experience Xanrea

Sim Mode: Observer view with RTS camera. Click any NPC to see their stats, inventory, quest log, and personality profile. Interact with them to understand their motivations and decision making process.

RPG Mode: Create your own adventurer and explore directly. Walk the world, fight monsters, cast skills, and level up. The same AI systems drive both NPCs and combat, creating a consistent simulation whether you're controlling a character or watching one.

Streamer Mode - Automated camera system that switches between random NPCs. Watch the simulation unfold handsfree.

This is a fanatical fantasy. A long shot in the dark. But I truly believe given time I can succeed.

So, what say you, adventurer? Are you finally awake? Maybe, just maybe you're already halfway to Drestor.
