What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I’m a solo indie developer. This means that I have to do everything by myself, and progress is slow. I have a great game concept, but only a limited amount of time to follow it through. I aim to make an update every month, as I gradually progress towards my vision for this game. Everything moving slow is to my benefit, because I don't have the time to react fast or pour all my hours into game development.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“This game will probably stay in early access, until I receive feedback from around 100 players. Will that ever happen? Who Knows. For now, I have years worth of updates planned. So I will be here for a long time.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I am now in polish mode. My long-term goal is for Battle For Rakir, to be a open world space sandbox game. That means that while there will be a path to victory, it would have to be found, and players could actually ignore that path completely and set their own goals since the world is open and vast. A lot of the preparation and pieces for this goal are in place, but I am still working through converting what I have (a story driven narrative) into a more sandbox type of game.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“This game is playable with some bugs, and a (based on feedback) less than intuitive user interface.

What is done:
  • The game's main campaign is complete, and should provide 5-8 hours of gameplay.
  • All (30?) regions of the game are filled with content and playable.
  • Many activities, secrets, side quests, and world filling details have been added already.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“This game is free to play with NO microtransactions or tricks. The purpose of the this project is to create something that people will play, and enjoy. I am not looking to monetize, ever.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“So far, I have taken every piece of feedback that I have received (either on the Discord, or through the game's Steam Reviews), and worked them into the game. If you reach out to me (preferably through the game's discord, accessible in the game's main menu), I will listen to what you have to say and add it to the game if it makes sense.

About This Game

Battle for Rakir is an open-world, isometric (top-down) space combat sandbox taking place around the war-torn planet of Rakir. You will be joining the ongoing war, by creating a new character and leveling them up through combat and exploration, while searching for one of the many paths to peace that are available to end the ongoing war.

Rakir is a harsh, unforgiving environment. So you will need to carefully craft your build from dozens of different class-paths, spacecraft, equipment, and recruitable allies. Exploration is your friends, and many easter eggs and prizes are hidden throughout the universe, waiting to be found.

This is a solo indie developer project. The game is very much playable, and will continue to transform over the coming years, (albeit slowly and on my schedule), as I bring it closer to my vision of a living space combat sandbox. Please help make it better, with your suggestions and feedback.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Violence: Violence is depicted via the destruction of fantasy spaceships, and character's dialogue reactions to them.

Sexual Content: Some sexual content is suggested via text based dialogue, but it is sparse and nothing is shown or described in any detail.
