What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“1) The balance of playable characters in this game is not perfect. (Long throwing distances, system interference between characters, etc.).
The scenario has not yet been drawn up, and we would like to adjust it while listening to users' feedback.

(2) We would like to enable multiplayer in the future, but first we would like people to play single-player games at an affordable price.

(3) We want people to see the story through to the end, but we want to adjust the speed of progression so as not to spoil the story.
In the same way that a full-length anime or manga is not released until its climax, we want people to look forward to the latest installment in the series.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“One to two years are expected.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“1) Expansion of game play, including multiplayer
2)Completion of the high school students' story (until March of the third year)
3) You can go back and forth between 11 areas including Nagase and Matsunomiya.
4)Adjusted game balance of the system
5)Enrichment of sub-events”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“1) Only single-player with 16 characters is possible. (Multiplayer is not supported)
2) Early storyline is playable. (up to April of the first year)
3) You can go back and forth between two areas, Nagase and Matsunomiya.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As we add new content and features, we plan to increase prices.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We collect feedback from users through the forums. Basically we look at the comments to get a rough idea of the player's overall impression of the various features and the balance/difficulty of the gameplay and see if anything has been overlooked or missing.”

About This Game

What is “Mate”?

Mate” is an open-world action adventure game set in a rural Japanese town.

Players form teams of up to four from over 16 characters and control each character separately to explore various locations and solve problems.

The Story

Hikari Washington, who was not accepted at her first-choice high school, enrolled in a rural high school of her second choice, but was having a hard time making friends and spending the month of April in school in a depressed mood.

One day after school, while killing time at a family restaurant near the school, I found Sakura Oklahoma, who goes to the same junior high school, working part-time, and we exchanged contact information.

The next day, while on his way to school, he receives a call from the school that the school is closed, but on the way he passes a police car...

The System

Each character uses unique skills to solve problems.

There are a number of interactive objects in the field that may provide hints or help in the quest.

The interactions are very realistic.

For example, bringing a study desk to climb a high place solves the problem, and forgetting a bag with a commuter pass in it at school or elsewhere will prevent the station gates from opening.

It is up to the user to decide whether the character who owns the bag should go get it or ask a classmate to bring it back.

And exploring a vast field on foot is not efficient.

Trains and buses can be used to travel farther and faster.

There are as many ways to complete the quest as there are players, depending on who uses which objects where and when.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

There are some scenes depicting characters without clothing, such as bathing scenes.
