About This Game

The Weather Gage is a single-player naval simulation set during the Age of Sail, in the time of Horatio Nelson and Napoleon. The player embarks on a career as a navy officer, commanding a single sailing warship to capture or destroy enemy warships and merchant vessels.

  • Realistic, physics-based sailing, simulating true forces acting on sails, hull, rudder, anchor, and boats.

Ship-to-ship and ship-to-fortress combat, featuring cannons and carronades loaded with solid shot, grape shot, and canister shot. Damage affects the hull, sails, crew, rudder, and cannons.

Crew combat, whether ship-to-ship or boat-to-ship, using small firearms and boarding actions with edged weapons.

NPC ships react dynamically, considering relationships with other vessels, nations, crew morale, terrain elements, and wind direction. Their perception accounts for light (day/night), weather conditions like fog, and deception tactics such as false flags.

A coastline based on real-world data, including sea depth, with ports and fortifications positioned according to historical records.

Set between 1793 and 1815, the simulation is inspired by historic naval conflicts—including the French Revolutionary Wars, Napoleonic Wars, and the War of 1812—with a strong focus on historical authenticity and single-ship actions featuring frigates and smaller vessels.

Drawing inspiration from historical naval figures such as Thomas Cochrane, as well as celebrated fiction like the Aubrey-Maturin novels, Hornblower, and Master & Commander, the game captures the spirit of maritime warfare with rich historical detail.
