Ordinary Heroes was always designed with the Steam Deck in mind. The game fully supports controller input and runs great on Steam Deck.

At the moment, you do need to force compatibility and select Proton 9.0-4 to play without issues.

After many years—and, honestly, some very hard times—I’m incredibly proud to finally release Ordinary Heroes.

With no budget left for advertising, releasing the game at Christmas felt oddly right. So here it is, launched with nothing but hope and a little belief in a Christmas miracle.

If you’ve bought the game, thank you. Truly. It means more to me than I can put into words. Your support is the reason this release matters at all.

Ordinary Heroes is a fun, character-driven game made with a lot of love. One thing I want to be very clear about: not a single visual in this game was AI-generated. This is old-school development—everything you see was hand-drawn and hand-animated. It took an immense amount of time and care, and I’m incredibly proud of that.

And this isn’t the end—this is just the beginning. I genuinely want your feedback. Your thoughts, ideas, and experiences will help shape what Ordinary Heroes becomes next, and I’ll be updating the game accordingly. Please let me know what you think.

Ordinary Heroes is a hand-drawn 2D hack-and-slash strategy game where you lead a ragtag group of villagers in the fight of their lives. Monsters have overrun the once-peaceful village of Hillscrest, and only by banding together can the villagers hope to survive.

Hey there from COW Studios! Despite the name, it’s really just me—a solo dev—pouring my heart into Ordinary Heroes. Starting from scratch, it took years of hard work and perseverance to bring you this game. We faced setbacks, made mistakes, and learned a ton, but all of it was to reach you: the player.

Every piece of art in Ordinary Heroes is lovingly hand-drawn—no AI involved. It was a monumental effort, but one we believe brings a unique spirit to the game. We’ve also kept the price as low as possible, because we don’t think you should bear the cost of our struggle. Despite offering 15–20 hours of gameplay and a considerable investment, we want the price to stay accessible, because at this moment, all that truly matters is getting the game into your hands.
