What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access gives you the chance to be part of the game's development. ASHWAKE was designed with community involvement in mind, allowing players to help shape the best experience without doing all the work themselves. The game still needs polishing to deliver a full experience and story that’s worth your investment. By supporting us, you’ll play a crucial role in developing ASHWAKE and help create the most impactful hardcore survival game possible. After the full release, we aim to include mod support with all the tools necessary for modders to enhance and expand the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“ASHWAKE is a long-term project, and it's hard to say exactly how long it will take to gather player feedback, refine combat, develop the story and atmosphere, and implement modding systems. The current estimate for Early Access is around 2-4 years, but this could change depending on the size of the development team in the future. Currently, the game is being developed by a solo creator.

The game is expected to leave Early Access once the story is complete and all mechanics are fully functional, with no major game breaking bugs or issues.

For more details on the game's development, please refer to the official roadmap and social channels in the Discord.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the final version to feature more items, maps, quests, and weapons, along with a more polished overall gameplay experience, including mod support. We want players to have the freedom to enjoy the game their way, so we also plan to add modding tools allowing the players to create and customize their own experiences.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version includes the core mechanics of the game, but several important features are still to be implemented. The primary goal of Early Access is to deliver a realistic and immersive game world with engaging gameplay design, allowing players to contribute to enhancing the overall experience before the full release.

Current state of the Early Access version:

3 Factions
3 Maps
Interactable World Items
Anomaly System
Radiation Zones
Crafting System
Cooking System
PDA System
Permadeath
Quest System
Animated Weapons
Over 100 Items
Core FPS Mechanics
AI System
Looting System
Base System
Extraction System”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will increase closer to the release date to reflect the additional content, but all Early Access supporters will retain access without any additional cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players are the primary reason for entering Early Access, as it allows them to provide feedback on improvements and report bugs throughout development. The community will be able to stay informed and share their input through the official Discord channel and other social platforms associated with ASHWAKE. Another key reason for Early Access is to enable the community to contribute to setting up mod support, paving the way for future content creation.

Demo versions plan to be released so players can experience core features and provide feedback:

Public Demo 1 (Dates TBD)
Public Demo 2 (Dates TBD)

These demos will allow players to test new features and experience the overall gameplay before release. The primary goal is to involve players in identifying and fixing bugs, ensuring the game is the best it can be by launch.

To stay up to date, follow the official social media channels and join the community on Discord, where you can also check out the development roadmap.”

About This Game

ASHWAKE

Experience a hardcore survival game with realistic weapon mechanics, in-depth survival systems, and hostile NPCs, as well as anomalies and creatures. Featuring multiple factions, tactical weapon handling, permadeath mode, questline, and extraction systems to safeguard your gear.

LOOTING

Navigate "The Abyss" and search loot containers for gear to sell, craft, or use to better help you survive. Certain items will be required to progress, making exploration an essential part of the game, your character is a scavenger searching through a land left broken in search of any way to hold onto their survival.

ANOMALIES

The anomalies emerged when the land became unstable after the very first Ash Storm emerged. They range from manageable to outright dangerous in every way. They can give you a range from a little shock to ripping you limb from limb, best to avoid these when you see them. They do have their benefits by creating artifacts that can be sold or used to better prepare you for survival in risky situations.

LEVEL TRANSITIONS & EXTRACTS

The world is divided into multiple locations, each with its own unique purpose, requiring players to travel between areas to progress. Levels are connected by transition zones that are on a timer, forcing you to fend off enemies to survive. The extract zones work similar but go back to the base where you can store your loot, sell/buy with traders, and accept/complete tasks to level up.

PROGRESSION

In The Abyss the only way to progress is power. Complete tasks and survive raids to level up and unlock new attachments, vendors, and locations. Design your base how you want, buy furniture from vendors and place loot items freely. Create items at the crafting benches that can be placed around your base, some are powered by the generator. There is secondary progression with the available equipment that progressively gets more useful over time.

FACTIONS

Choose from a variety of factions, each with its own base, clothing, and side quests to immerse you in the universe. The factions include Bandits, The Remains, and the Plague Walkers, each offering unique gameplay. Bandits and Remains are rival scavengers fighting for survival, while the Plague Walkers are infected survivors trying to fight off full mutation.

ROADBLOCKS

Roadblocks are placed to slow progression through the world, ensuring players must reach certain levels to advance through "The Abyss." As you progress through the game, these roadblocks will be removed, allowing access to new areas, loot, and quests.

THE ABYSS

"The Abyss" is what the survivors called the zone after the "accident" happened. It’s a land left victim to those who thought they were smart enough to fight off death itself. The area is left full of anomalies, rival factions, and mutated beasts. You must survive "The Abyss" and free yourself and those you care for from the disaster that was brought upon them by humanity itself.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

In the game "ASHWAKE" there will be swearing when interacting with characters as well as when the main character speaks. The game will depict gore and violence when fighting off enemies including soldiers & zombies as well as graphic mutants that will display visible flesh. There will be very few references to sexual content including posters of models and magazines.
