What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Due to the explicit level of player agency in Warped Universe, significant testing needs to be done in Early Access of Season Zero to fine-tune game balance. With Warped Universe's unprecedented combination of gameplay, extended balance time is needed to get itemization correct across all gameplay genres.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“While the exact duration is uncertain, we estimate that Warped Universe will remain in Early Access for approximately 6 to 12 months. Season Zero will go through multiple iterations as we refine key systems, including Random Map Systems, Itemization, Stat Balance, and Multiplayer gameplay across all game modes.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Warped Universe is designed as an ever-evolving ecosystem, where the state of the universe is continually shaped by player choices and actions. Season Zero marks the beginning of this journey, and the systems and mechanics we explore during Early Access will help guide ongoing development. We plan to continually refine and expand Warped Universe through updates, introducing new features and mechanics based on player feedback and ongoing iteration. Our ultimate goal is to add more game genres over time, giving players even more choice in how they experience Warped Universe.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version features a full introductory mission that takes the player through all four gameplay genres, action and turn-based, on the ground and in space, leading to a social and mission hub called Nexus Station. On Nexus Station there is a map system and portal where players can warp to planets to complete various combat and non-combat missions.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Warped Universe is free to play. Single player and co-op multiplayer are both completely free. Monetization is cosmetic only through our in-game currency Koju. The game will remain free to play after Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We actively monitor and engage on all of our social media pages and hold regular Warped Talk Q+As on Discord and YouTube, where developers share updates and show recent progress, giving the community an opportunity to give direct feedback about anything and everything Warped Universe. Being a part of the Warped Games Discord channel is the best way for players and community members to get in touch with developers. We're a global team and always have team members online ready to answer questions and take feedback.”

About This Game

Warped Universe: A Meta-driven Sci-fi Looter Shooter

You deploy onto a planet consumed by the Void. Push through the corruption, neutralize the cosmic threat, and secure vital resources.

But your mission doesn't just help your character. The Residuum you collect can be used to power facilities on that planet. Once a facility is completed, it provides a permanent benefit to every player in the game.

At the same time, players elsewhere in the galaxy are discovering new planets and working on other objectives. There are hundreds of these objectives throughout each season, all contributing to the same shared universe.

What you do in a mission can change what everyone else has access to.

Warped Universe is a PvE looter shooter where the community helps shape the universe together. Play solo today, or get ready to squad up with up to 4 players in the upcoming co-op update.

Missions can be played as real-time action or turn-based tactics, both on the ground and in space. You can approach the same mission in very different ways depending on how you want to play.

Who are you?

You aren't human anymore, not exactly.

You stepped through the Celadon Gate, a portal away from a dying Earth, and were remade on the other side. The Oracle called you through, an ancient AI that needed people like you to stand against an erasure spreading at the edges of reality.

The universe you warped into is held in balance by the Oracle, but not everyone agrees with how it runs things. A faction broke away, and the Void keeps closing in.

You're synthetic now, reprinted every time it erases you. You're one of the few things standing between matter and silence.

Explore. Defend. Upgrade. Empower.

Explore: Discover uncharted sectors and hidden planets.

Defend: Protect hundreds of seasonal objectives from the Void, a relentless alien enemy.

Upgrade: Collect Cores and Sparks to evolve and power up your custom Echo Suit and Ship.

Empower: Secure facilities to unlock permanent global buffs for everyone.

Free to Play, Forever

Warped Universe is free to play. There are no paywalls or pay-to-win mechanics. Purchases are cosmetic.

If You Like These Games, You'll Feel At Home In Our Universe

We took a lot of inspiration from the games we play. If you like any of these, you'll probably recognize pieces of what we're trying to do.

Co-op PvE shooters: Helldivers 2, Deep Rock Galactic, Destiny 2.

Space combat and exploration: Everspace 2, Star Wars Battlefront, No Man's Sky.

Turn-based tactics: XCOM 2, Phoenix Point, Fallout Tactics, Aliens: Dark Descent.

Synthetic beings and futuristic realms: Warframe, Tron, Control, Cyberpunk 2077.

Warped Universe mixes these ideas in its own way. Missions can be played as real-time action or turn-based tactics, on the ground or in space.

Early Access - What's Here Now

Warped Universe is currently in Early Access and continues to expand.

You can play ground combat and space exploration, visit the Nexus Station social hub, progress planetary facilities, collect gear and upgrades, and contribute to a seasonal solar system that the community unlocks together.

The game supports both real-time action and turn-based tactics, so you can choose how you want to approach each mission.

We're currently deep in testing the next major addition: squad co-op for up to 4 players.

What Makes It Different

A Shared Destiny

Every mission contributes to the bigger picture. Complete objectives, extract Residuum, activate and defend planetary facilities, and help expand the solar system.

When a facility is completed, its benefits go to the entire community. The more players accomplish together, the more of the universe becomes available.

Play Your Way

Some players want a fast-paced shooter. Others would rather think through every move. Some just want to explore space.

Warped Universe supports all of those approaches. Missions can be played as real-time action or turn-based tactics, and your progress still contributes to the same shared universe.

Squad Co-op

Warped Universe is being built around playing together. The upcoming co-op update will let up to 4 players take on missions as a squad, whether you're fighting on the ground or traveling through space.

You can still play solo, but you'll be able to bring friends along as the co-op systems come online.

Independently Developed

Warped Universe is being built by a team of 12. No publisher, no giant studio, just developers with credits on Jumpgate, Auto Assault, LEGO Universe, and Dragons & Titans making the game we wanted to play.

Free to Play, Forever

Warped Universe will remain free to play after Early Access. There are no paywalls or pay-to-win mechanics. Purchases are cosmetic.

Key Features

  • A Shared, Living Universe: Every player contributes to the season-wide meta-goal. Connect new sectors through Pylons, complete missions to power facilities, and watch planets develop as the community progresses. The benefits go to everyone, and even solo missions contribute to the same universe.

  • You Are an Echo: Your body was left on Earth. You're synthetic now, with your consciousness housed in a custom Echo that can be reprinted when the Void erases you. Power it up with Cores, Sparks, and Psionic skills earned from faction missions.

  • Personal and Communal Progression: Upgrade your Echo Frame, weapons, and ship while helping the community expand the shared universe around you.

  • Ground Combat: Take on missions across different locations, including asteroids and evolving planets.

  • Space Exploration: Navigate asteroid fields, debris, and massive organic structures left behind by the Void.

  • Persistent Hub: Nexus Station is where you gather between missions, customize your equipment, plan your next move, and keep track of what's happening across the solar system.

  • Choose Your Playstyle: Play missions as real-time action or turn-based tactics, on the ground or in space.

  • Solo Now, Squad Co-op Coming: Play on your own today, or team up with up to 4 players when the upcoming co-op update arrives. Every mission contributes to the shared universe.

  • Seasonal Content: Each season expands the solar system with new planets, missions, technology, enemies, lore, and cosmetics.

Nexus Station

The Nexus Station is the heart of this new universe, built by the Oracle and the first humans through the Celadon Gate. It's where you gather, gear up, and plan missions before heading back out into space.

A real-time 3D solar system map at the center of the station lets you track planetary progress, monitor operational facilities, and scout for regions to expand the Oracle's reach.

Workstations throughout the station are where you acquire new equipment, apply cosmetics, and add upgrades to your arsenal before heading back out.

What's Coming

Season Zero is just the beginning.

We're working on new gameplay systems, missions, enemies, planets, technology, and other additions that will expand how you approach Warped Universe. And as mentioned previously, squad co-op is the next major update, and it's getting VERY close! Co-op in real-time ground, turn-based ground, real-time space, and turn-based space flight missions. Play with your friends at any pace, and push the universe forward.

Follow us for updates and reveals as we get closer to each one.

Seasonal Solar Systems

In Warped Universe, seasonal gameplay keeps the experience changing over time.

As players complete missions and collect Residuum, they'll construct new planets and establish facilities that unlock new technologies. Those same planets and facilities then have to be defended from the Void.

Each season introduces a new solar system with new missions, environments, combatants, technology, lore, and cosmetics.

The community's progress helps determine how that solar system develops.

Season Zero

This is the beginning.

New planets, new enemies, new facilities, and a solar system that changes as players work through it.

What the community accomplishes during Season Zero will shape what comes next.
