What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We’re releasing it in Early Access so we can keep adding to it with players on board, with new titans, patterns, loadouts, enemies and game modes, including an endless mode, on the way, and use what players tell us to fine-tune the balance.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Around a year, depending on how much changes from player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add:

More titans, starting with a stealth titan and a drone carrier.
Patterns: alternative versions of each titan with their own strengths and drawbacks, including captured enemy designs you unlock by beating them.
Alternative starting loadouts, unlocked through titan mastery.
An endless mode where you loop back through the sector with your titan, harder each time.
Expand the weapons, relics and abilities, and the enemies you fight.
Rebalance everything based on players feedback
Keep improving performance, controls and accessibility.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“A full run is playable from the first zone to the tyrant. It includes:

Three titans, each with mastery levels and paint schemes to earn
Dozens of weapons (with legendaries and variants), dozens of relics, abilities, perks and upgrades.
Several worlds and enemy factions, more of them opened up by freeing sectors
A range of objectives, enemy titans and knights, Siege Crawlers, and night and storm zones.
Five difficulty tiers, unlocked by beating the tyrant.
A score system with a Steam leaderboard, and Steam achievements.
Sector seeds you can share.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price as major updates land. Buying during Early Access gets you the full game when it releases, with nothing extra to pay.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Mainly using the in game Feedback button on the main menu and a Copy run info button on the pause screen that copy the game version, seed, titan, gear and relics, ready to paste into a report. Players can also turn on a run log in the settings: a file with a line per zone that they can attach to balance feedback. Sector seeds make problems easy to reproduce. What players report decides what we work on first.”

About This Game

Iron Stride is a top-down roguelite about piloting a towering war titan through enemy sectors. Each sector puts thousands of soldiers, armour and other titans between you and the gate out. Between zones you repair, refit and pick where to go next.

Fight for survival

Thousands of soldiers can be on the field at once, along with tanks, artillery, bikes, walkers and fortified bunkers. Crush infantry beneath you, or blow a hole through a fort wall and walk in.

Enemy titans and knights roam the deeper sectors. You'll hear their horns before you see them.

Your war machine titan

  • Three titans to pick from. The Jackal is fast and fragile. The Warden is the all-rounder. The Colossus is a slow brawler that wades into the crowd.

  • Dozens of weapons, from rotary cannons and flamers to fusion cannons and drone bays, plus legendaries and variants that can roll on any of them.

  • Dozens of relics. Stack them, combine them, and see what build you end up with.

  • Upgrade your titan's systems, and earn mastery with each titan to unlock new paint schemes.

The sector

Pick a route across a branching map of scrap caches, repair yards, weapon caches and titan duels. Each zone has objectives to finish before the gate out will open including, raid convoys, capture uplinks, and fight enemy titan commanders. The deeper you go, the heavier the enemy.

  • Distinct worlds, from the Cinder Wastes and a ruined megacity to ice, foundry and jungle worlds. Each has its own hazards.

  • Enemy factions with their own troops, titans and battlefield events.

  • Night and storm zones. At night you can't see far. In storms, lightning hits the tallest thing nearby.

  • Siege Crawlers: walking fortresses that grind across the map towards your gate.
