Scaler is a 3d platformer with puzzle elements with a unique mechanic that allows you to fully control your size/scale (i.e., to shrink and to grow). Use this ability to explore the game space and find a way to close the rift spheres that are metastasizing into our world.

「There are several reasons:
  • Players` feedback: I believe community participation is invaluable for developing a good game. It also makes the development process more efficient and fun.
  • To be able to continue developing the game at a fast pace without being distracted by anything else.

「I think about 8 months would be enough to go through Early Access. But depending on the feedback and ideas by the players, it may be longer.」

正式版預計會與搶先體驗版有何不同?

「I want the game's further development to be influenced by community feedback, but nonetheless here are the planned tasks (key points):
  • to add new mini-locations (rift-spheres) (at least 6-8 of them)
  • to fill game world
  • to deepen plot presentation (which is almost non-existent at the moment)
  • to polish existing content (some could be significantly reworked)

    Also, i have several ambitious ideas (new game modes) that, if there is enough community interest, i could implement. But due to the high complexity of those, i will most likely deal with them only after the full release of the game.

「The Early Access version is fully playable. Main mechanics and systems are ready. At least half (8 to be exact) of the mini-locations (rift-spheres) with its own internal gameplay are ready. Though, the game world is not fully constructed and filled yet. A lot of content needs polishing and/or improvement. There is also no developed plot presentation yet.

Features listed in the "About This Game" section are implemented. The main differences (from the full game) are the lack of plot presentation and the amount and polish of content.」

Setting

You play as an archaeologist who, in the process of studying an ancient parchment, accidentally activated a hyperdimensional entity, with which the parchment turned out to be contaminated. This entity began to attract fragments of other times and worlds (rift spheres) into our world. The release of energy at the moment of activation was not in vain for the main character - he acquired the ability to change his scale. Using this ability, he will have to close the rift spheres and deactivate the parchment before their metastasizing goes too far.

Please note that the game is gameplay-centric, there will be no story, just some form of plot presentation.

Gameplay

The game world is the main character's office, in which he accidentally activates the parchment. Rift spheres are scattered around the office. Each rift sphere is a unique location with its own type of gameplay (different types of platforming) and mechanics. Your goal is to try to reach the core of each rift sphere and deactivate it to close the rift.​ For that, you need to find a path to that sphere and then inside find a way to deactivate the core.​

Game features:

  • Self-scale changing mechanic: this is the main thing the game is built around. It lets you to explore the game world without any obstacles (if you see it - you can reach it) and very fast (you determine the pace yourself). It made the game world exceptionally large without being annoying (you can reach any place in a matter of seconds). It allowed for deeper platformer and adventure mechanics.
  • Seamless gameplay: the game takes place in one space, without cutscenes and loadings.

    Additional notes and disclaimers

  • I'm solo-dev, so be aware of the potential scope of the game.
  • Most of the 3d-models (and textures) in the game are assets from the Unreal Engine Marketplace. Everything else (music, SFX, VFX, mechanics, code etc.) created by me.
