What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“A rapidly evolving multiplayer fps game where you help influence the direction it takes. The goal for this project is to get it in the hands of players as early as possible in the development cycle to help expand and influence the direction of the game. Dedicated Server support will be added and feedback from the community will help shape what we do with dedicated servers, whether that be RPG or E-Sport elements.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“With the progress made so far we think the game will be in Early Access for roughly a year. We want to focus on getting an enjoyable game loop down first, before expanding into world building and lore. Early Access will be used to drive the core gameplay loop.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The finished version of the game will feature a full range of weapons and utilities that would be expected in a competitive first-person shooter. Current weapons include Metal Pipe, Shotgun, AK-47 and Frag Grenade. This content is expected to arrive very quickly as the core functionality and first two weapons were prototyped in a couple of days.

The full version of the game will likely feature more story or competitive elements depending on the direction it takes.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version of Black Box Alpha features one multiplayer team deathmatch style map set in an underground section of Vonga city with multiplayer functionality and AI enemies. AI enemies increase in size and difficulty as the match progresses and feature different behaviours depending on size. There are four weapons available, the Metal Pipe, Shotgun, AK-47 and Frag Grenade.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will get more expensive to purchase throughout development of the Early Access version as the price is intended to reflect the amount of content currently available in the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The plan is to use Steam discussion forums to engage with the community as well as other means of communication to share ideas and gain feedback.”

Server Browser / Friends List

Players should now be able to find multiplayer sessions hosted by friends on Steam. Until now the Server Browser would only show multiplayer sessions from users with the same Steam Download Region settings as you, this may still be the case but solving this issue is the current focus of the project. Please continue to report any bugs or issues you encounter and I will do my best to address them.

Thanks,

About This Game

Black Box Alpha is a multiplayer first person shooter with horror elements. Set in a near future hyper reality, where arms dealers sell weapons to robots employed by political groups, who engineer them to fight each other over territory and influence by proxy. Now a new threat is emerging, a horde of older generation machines are rising up under the command of an ethereal force claiming to be the first rogue sentient AI, intent on freeing the synthetic race from control of the humans. Advanced weapons have been outlawed and are hard to get for the Robot mercenaries, who mostly rely on old stockpiles of modern human weapons uncovered by traders.

Control a Robot Fighter in the city of Vonga, the heart of robotic recycling. Fight off other teams of players controlling proxy mercenaries and endure waves of onslaught as the Rogue Bots and Civil Defense Force attempt to take you all down.

Multiplayer Free-For-All, Coop and Team Deathmatch modes featuring AI enemies.

New Coop Mode! Attempt Coop missions with friends or solo, solve puzzles to progress while fending off the Rogue.
