What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“God Save Birmingham aims to create a challenging survival game set in a meticulously detailed medieval town, with level design and gameplay that embrace historical detail. We envision this to come in multiple phases that are executed based on player engagement, making Early Access the right approach--especially for three areas we find constant player feedback essential.

First is creating a true sandbox experience. We hope to incorporate almost everything imaginable in a medieval zombie survival setting, and we believe it would be possible with the combined creativity of the players and us.

Second is to refine the balance, in order to stay faithful to the experience we are aiming for. Designing a realistic and challenging survival experience requires a lot of fine-tuning the balance. We would love to hear the input of players well versed in the genre to help us home in on the right experience for everyone.

Last but not least is to ensure each game update we have adds to the overall enjoyment of the game. We fully recognize that decisions we make for the game may not always be for the best despite our best intentions. But we won't know if we were wrong unless our players tell us how they feel.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“After Early Access release, we’ll be working for another year or so to complete the town itself, focusing on sandbox-style gameplay and survival challenges.

After that, we’ll spend another year or so creating light story-driven elements that allow players to explore the stories of Birmingham’s people as they fight to survive in a world gone mad.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our plan is that the full version of God Save Birmingham will build upon the Early Access version, expanding the various systems, mechanics, and items. Updates will provide additional polish and depth to ensure that every session delivers a tense and exciting survival gameplay.

We’re also planning to add very light narrative elements, creating an avenue for an enhanced experience should you decide to explore the town with an eye for it.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version will contain the foundational vision for the game: explore the town, gather supplies, and ensure your long-term survival in this zombie-infested version of medieval Birmingham.

In terms of actual gameplay, our plan is to have a sizable portion of the town’s space available, with several survivor characters to choose from. Complex survival mechanics like weather and body temperature will be present in Early Access, and we will continue to build a deeper gameplay experience as we near official release.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The short answer is: we don’t know for sure yet, but it is likely to increase. As we add more content and systems, through Early Access and beyond, we may revisit pricing to better reflect the state of the game. With our plans for future content we shared above, the pricing will likely increase during or after Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“At Ocean Drive Studio, we take an inside-out approach to development, starting from the core of what makes a game fun, and building from there. We take things like demos, betas, and Early Access periods extremely seriously, and consider player feedback absolutely vital to pretty much everything we do.

We invite players to follow our blog updates on Steam, drop in on , share their thoughts every step of the way, and join us on our journey to deliver great games.

God Save Birmingham!”

About This Game

God Save Birmingham is a physics-driven zombie survival simulator set in medieval Birmingham, England. As the town’s only survivor, you must scramble to fulfill your everyday needs, while avoiding the grasping hands and rotten teeth of your former friends and neighbors.

A HISTORICAL TOWN WITH A HELLISH TWIST

Explore a painstakingly rendered and reimagined medieval market town, now teeming with undead. But don’t let that stop you from seeing the sights! Drop by the historic Bull Ring, grab a bite to eat at the markets, or take a moment to rest at Saint Martin’s Church. Just remember to bar the doors first.

PHYSICS THAT MATTER

Almost every object in the game can be moved or manipulated to aid your chances of survival. Barricade a door with a dining table, grab a barrel and go bowling for zombies, or set a rushlight on the ground to light the room while you sleep.

But the laws of nature also apply to you. Trip over a ledge, and you may lose your weapon. Fall from too high, and you might break your leg.

HARDCORE SURVIVAL GAMEPLAY

With the town in chaos, simply staying alive is a struggle. You’ll have to scavenge food, secure clean drinking water, keep warm, seek shelter at night, and try not to fall ill, all while dealing with a constant undead siege.

But man does not live by bread alone. You’ll also have to manage your mental state to avoid lapsing into despair or madness. You can also level up various survival-related skills by continuously practicing them, including mastery over certain weapon types.

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS

With no one left to stop you, the real estate market has become… flexible. Seek out your choice of shelter, secure doors and windows, then cozy the place up to make it your own. With the right tools and scavenged resources, you can craft weapons, fixtures, and furniture to make any building your home — including door latches, barricades, bonfires, and a whole lot more.

THE MORE THE MERRIER

Tired of being the lone survivor? Hop into online co-op with friends to take on the zombie threat together. After a long day of scavenging and crafting, gather around a pot of hot porridge to share fireside tales. Slated for Early Access, multiplayer will allow a group of players to join a single session and team up for everyone’s survival in the sandbox environment.
