What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to build Retro Rail GO! together with fans of Japanese trains and classic train sims. Early Access allows us to gather feedback on train behavior, station flow, UI, and overall feel, so we can fine-tune the experience and ensure it lives up to the charm and nostalgia it's inspired by.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently estimate our Early Access period to last between 6 to 12 months, largely depending on how the community will receive the game and the ideas/changes that arise in the process.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version to include additional train types and more routes inspired by real Japanese railway lines. We're also aiming to enhance visuals, audio, and overall polish based on player feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version features 2 distinct Japanese routes and 2 train types, all available in Casual and Professional modes. Core systems—dual‑notch acceleration/braking, station stops, signal compliance, timekeeping, and scoring—are fully implemented and actively refined. The game is end‑to‑end playable, and we’re leveraging community feedback to polish controls, UI, and overall presentation.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Price may be slightly increase when we leave early access depending on the amount of content added to the final version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community's input will be crucial to Retro Rail GO!'s development. Through the Steam Community Hub and our own Discord Server, we want to be in touch as much as possible to hear and implement the changes requested by our players.”
