Enfant, son père disait souvent à Laura qu’elle était spéciale. Mais le père de Laura mourut avant sa majorité et Laura ne sut jamais ce que son père entendait par « spéciale ». En mémoire de son père, Laura conserva une amulette, « L’Attrape-rêves ». Il le lui avait donné car depuis toute petite, elle se plaignait de faire des cauchemars.

Tout à coup, son Attrape-rêves préféré disparaît et Laura s’endort pendant son concert. Tombée dans un rêve léthargique, les médecins ne savent que faire et en dépit de tous leurs efforts, elle ne revient pas à la vie. C’est là que le Professeur Sanders offre ses services.
