What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“MyXiyou brings together customizable parties, character transformations, generated-world exploration, and a pilgrimage adventure. The existing build supports party selection, exploration, collection, fast travel, and encounters with wild demon groups, while combat pacing, party roles, and progression still need iteration.

We want real player feedback to help refine route choices, character and mount combinations, exploration rewards, and combat design, alongside performance and usability.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last approximately six months from the start of Early Access sales. This is a development estimate, not a fixed full-release date.

During this period, we aim to refine the combat and progression loop, expand exploration content, and improve art, interface design, and performance. If testing or development requires more time, we will explain the reasons through Steam announcements and update our estimate.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to build on the existing party selection, transformations, generated world, exploration, and Waystone travel systems with deeper cooperation between party roles and character abilities, a more complete system of randomized items, skills, and equipment progression, and a wider range of enemies, bosses, and exploration events.

We also plan to refine end-of-journey rewards at Mount Ling, with different outcomes for successful arrival and defeat, and continue improving scenery, animation, interface design, loading, and performance.

These are development goals. Their scope and implementation may change through testing and feedback, and they should not be treated as features already included in the current build.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version offers single-player 3D exploration on Windows. Select a lead character, up to three companions through unlocked slots, and a mount. Some characters can join in either humanoid or mount form during party selection. You can move freely and switch the controlled character while companions follow independently.

New journeys generate a fresh world layout and road network. The current mode has nine main journey stages plus additional branches, landmarks, and exploration areas. Included systems cover coins, qi, treasure chests, NPC pilgrimage parties, map exploration, tornado destination markers, Waystone activation and fast travel, and the cloud ascent to Mount Ling. Travel energy distinguishes roads from wilderness.

Wild demon groups have alert behaviour, patrols, group reinforcements, early automatic combat, health and fallen-character handling, and recovery through the Earth God near Waystones. Combat is still being redesigned and balanced, and art and performance remain in development. Complete randomized equipment and skill builds, dungeon interiors, and a final reward economy based on journey accomplishments are not finished.

Major system updates may make existing saves incompatible. We will explain this in the relevant update announcements.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to keep the base price unchanged throughout Early Access and increase it moderately when the full version launches, to reflect the more complete content and experience available at that time.

The exact full-release price has not yet been determined. We will announce any change in advance through Steam. Players who purchase during Early Access will not need to buy the base game again to play the full version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to collect bug reports and suggestions through Steam discussions and share development progress through update announcements.

We are especially interested in whether navigation is readable, party and mount combinations are enjoyable, exploration rewards feel worthwhile, combat roles and skills provide meaningful choices, and where players encounter performance, control, or visual problems.

We will use this feedback alongside development constraints to set priorities and explain major changes. Not every suggestion will become a feature.”

About This Game

Your party. Your pilgrimage.

MyXiyou is a single-player 3D exploration adventure inspired by Journey to the West, with an open-world roguelite direction under development. Each new journey generates a fresh world layout and road network. Set out from outside Chang'an, find your own route to Mount Ling, and decide which landmarks and treasures deserve a detour.

Build a party—and let characters become mounts

Choose one lead character and one mount, then add up to three companions through unlocked party slots. Assign companions as scout, guard, and baggage carrier. Travel with the familiar pilgrims or choose other divine and demonic characters. Switch the character you control while the others follow independently.

Characters with two forms can join as humanoid companions or transform into mounts for another character. White Bone Demon can take a deer form, and Chang'e can take a crane form. Their character names remain the same after transformation. A character cannot occupy two party positions at once. Other mount options include a horse, a cloud, and Wind-and-Fire Wheels.

A generated world with routes to discover

The current journey is organised around nine main journey stages, with additional branches and exploration areas. The whole world is not limited to nine small rooms. Generation combines landscape regions and authored scenic modules with an interconnected road network.

Explore forests, bamboo groves, snowy terrain, deserts, and waterside scenery. Discover temples, pagodas, villages, and cave entrances. Move freely with WASD and look for the rainbow that guides you toward Mount Ling. The map reveals explored areas as you travel. Cave entrances are currently scenic locations; full dungeon interiors are not included.

Stay on the road or cross the wilderness

Roads and wilderness currently share the same fast movement baseline. The difference is travel energy: travelling on roads does not drain it, while moving off-road does. If energy runs out, your party stops to recover. Follow a reliable road or take a more direct shortcut that may require rest along the way.

Gather treasure and unlock travel options

Collect coins and qi by approaching them or hovering over them with the mouse. Open treasure chests for coins, and spend coins on available character and companion-slot unlocks. Purchased companion slots remain available in later journeys. You can also meet computer-controlled pilgrimage parties that travel, rest, and collect resources. These are NPCs, not other online players.

Activate Waystones to unlock map-based fast travel to discovered points. Follow the environmental guiding wind toward an inactive Waystone. Press M to open the map and place a destination marker: a tall tornado appears at that position in the world, giving you a landmark you can recognise from a distance.

Roaming demons and early automatic combat

Demon groups guard locations, patrol, gather, and spread out through the wilderness. Alerting one member can draw in the rest of its group. In the current build, party members fight automatically using character abilities; this is not a combat system where you manually perform individual attacks. Characters have health, injuries persist after combat, and the Earth God near a Waystone can help injured survivors recover. Defeated wild enemies do not respawn within the same world.

Reach Mount Ling

Find the special Waystone at the mountain's foot, then ascend through the clouds with your party in a continuous sequence to reach Mount Ling.

Current development scope

Art, animation, interface design, performance, and combat balance are still being revised. Deeper role-based combat, a complete random equipment and skill progression system, more bosses, hostile-party battles, and accomplishment-based journey rewards remain planned work. Please judge a purchase by the features currently provided.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI tools were used during development to help create portions of the game's audio, visual assets, and written content, including background music and sound effects. AI assistance was also used for promotional artwork. These materials were selected, edited, and reviewed by the developer before inclusion. The core gameplay rules, design decisions, and final implementation were directed by the developer. The game uses pre-generated content and does not generate new content with AI during gameplay.
