Why Early Access?

“Our way-of-working is to improve our game in stages where our game grows in steps. In our opinion, early access is a perfect fit for this approach. While we can deliver new experiences in stages, our community can provide us valuable feedback. In turn this allows us to re-asses what direction we should take for the future iterations. This interaction will allow early adopters to inspire us, with new ideas or fine-tuning existing ones. Let's collaborate to make A Maze-ing runner the best it can be!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It is difficult to estimate that at this moment. But we see our release in stages (like live service). Our best estimate is Q4 2025. But this is no promise.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The early access version can be seen as the foundation. We plan to add thematic content/feature updates which each should contain what we call "Branches" (more info about this at a later point). We intend each update to contain one or more of the following content: world expansion, more skills (upgrades), vanities, special tile types, centralized around a theme.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We currently estimate to be that early access will start at around Q3 2024 away from releasing the first early access build.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“If you consider purchasing our game, we appreciate your trust in us. We plan to provide an "early bird" discount that will move to the actually intended price with each new content update. This provides transparency about our final pricing (because it is visible at all times) while early adopters are given the benefit of a cheaper price by supporting us early on.
Do only purchase our game now for its current state, not what you expect it to become.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“At a minimum we intend to provide updates on our discord server and via our steam page. Of course we will also keep track of the discussions page to the best of our abilities. If there is interest, we can also stream dev sessions or have Q&As.

The discord server will contain request and feedback channels and we will poll our community about features, next themes, etc.”

About This Game

A Maze-ing runner is a singleplayer topdown speedrunning game. At it's core you traverse a set of mazes as fast as possible. However... How do you reach the next stage (maze)? Follow the three pillars mentioned in the Guidebook of a-maze-ing trails: Explore, Optimize, Run!



Where is the exit? Who cares? It is the journey that matters, not the destination. Explore all nooks and crannies of each maze to prepare for the next phase.


So you found the exit, great! But did you do that in the best way? Become one with the maze to reach a maze-ing efficiency!


Run, orcy, run! Get there as fast as you can with your skill! Then show off to your competitors how you beat their time on a stage and revel in their... wait what? They beat your time again? What the f... orc? Got... To... Beat... Them!

To be Announced (We are a team of two Software engineering teachers who spend our free time at the grace of our loving families). By posting updates and communicating with you on our discord server, we hope to be transparent and give you a sense of the current development.

Long-term ideas: (not promises)

Our vision for this game is to stimulate speed running while also integrating the fun of exploration and progression that we all expect from modern games. We are thinking of vanity items, a skill/perk progression system and mechanics that reward exploration and replay-ability of stages (inspired by the metroidvania genre). A question we often see in communities of singleplayer games we love is if they will have multiplayer. To be ahead of the curve, we are considering this, but it is not our main priority. We aim to focus first on a satisfying and rewarding core gameplay loop.
