January 24

- AUSTRALIA DAY - SAVE 52% - SUPPORT CHARITIES -

G'day, mate!

Almost two years have passed since we, developer & publisher of trashy games like Father's Island and of course, the „Into the " Games Series by Homegrown Games have moved from Austria to Australia.

This has been recognized now by Steam, who have invited us to participate in their Australia Day Sale, a short Steam sale that highlights games from down under. Of course we participate, and as Australia Day is the 26th, and we have 2 games so far on sale, we decided to lock in a whopping -52% discount! Yiha!

However, more important is, that we have decided to donate all revenues from this sale to charities that really make a difference in our new country of residence. Not only that, we will top up all revenues received before doing so. So, all revenues from the steam sales between the 24th and 28th of January, minus Steam`s share and refunds, will be taken, split into three, rounded up to the next full 100$ and then distributed to:

- One charity that focuses on support for Aboriginal communities and / or students

- One charity focusing on wildlife or nature preservation here in Australia

- One charity focusing on help for the homeless

All that will be done end of March (when the steam report for March is finalized).

If you already have our game, or you hate their guts and don`t want to have them in your steam library, but still want to do something good, here are a few of the organizations on our shortlist:

https://wunan.org.au/donate

https://www.barrierreef.org/donate/make-a-donation

https://donate.lighthousefoundation.org.au/donate/

https://www.yalari.org/make-a-donation/

https://secure.bushheritage.org.au/donate

https://backpackbed.org/donate-online

Thanks for the read, have a good one!

Into the Dark 2.0 - Final Update released!

Every journey comes to an end...

...and today, almost ten years after the first concept of "Into the Dark" was envisioned, we present you the FINAL UPDATE to Into the Dark.

After updating Father`s Island to DirectX 11 and PBR

https://store.steampowered.com/app/460940/Fathers_Island/

we looked into Into the Dark again and did what was possible:

  • Re-rendered all video cutscenes with better sound quality
  • Improved the surface shading
  • Added a post-credits scene
  • Fixed the specularity artifacts
  • Replaced the ugliest textures with 3D scanned surfaces
  • Fixed all known sound bugs on weapons
  • Reduced memory consumption by 20-25% and crashes by 60-80%
  • Added additional fail-safes against script crashes
  • Reconfigured the entire post processing pipeline

Important: Please uninstall and re-install, instead of updating, to have all changes take place!

Still, keep in mind that this is a game that was first released in 2012, based on a shooter construction kit that was in its core technology from 2003. So basically, we have 15 years old tech trying to look cool.

It is a little bit sad to say farewell to our most successful "own IP game", to the title that got us both harsh criticism, a Jim Sterling rant in full beauty - and several game of the year and other awards.

However, all hands on deck now for the sequel, "Into the Ice", which is heavily delayed, but still progressing. As a matter of fact, you get a little bit mroe of that now. We wanted to include a full playable slice, but severe AI problems did let us down. We included an AI test, in which you can now try to fight against two different AI moduels we are testing right now. let us know which one was harder to beat!

And here the content list for this final edition:

  • Full "Into the Dark" game
  • Including full lenght "Night of the Living Dead" in the ingame cinema
  • Halloween Asylum level from 2015
  • Into Ice Level 3 Work in progress from 2017
  • Into the Ice AI test level from November 2018
  • Savegame before outro in last slot
  • Savegame before cutscene 1, one slot before the last one

Keep playing!

We will see each other again in....

“Despite some low-end visuals (as well as some really good ones) and a horrible sound mixing, the game kicks A because of its unmatched humour, some really creepy scenes, bizarre gags, dozens of pop culture jokes and some very intelligent references to post-WWII-politics.”
8.5 / 10 – Oldgamer

“It´s hard to rate a game so full of trash and jokes that you will roll on the floor laughing.”

About This Game

Expect the ultimate B-Movie Trash experience!

Don´t even dare to hope for state-of the art graphics, a proper balancing, professional voice acting or breathtaking script-writing. This here is 100% pure trash, an adventure / shooter hybrid with gazillions of bad jokes, dozens of pop culture references and a hidden, dense net of subversive, intelligent messages related to post-WWII-politics. Oh yes, you need a basic knowledge of pop culture to enjoy the game, and quite some education on politics to really love it, but who cares?

Far more important is:

We got boobies.
We got hookers.
We got Zombies.
We got Nazis.
We got even Nazi-Zombies!

You`re Peter "Pete" O`Brannon, a Private Eye. Sounds fascinating? It isn`t, trust me - unless you find it exciting to hunt down cheating husbands and lost dogs while living of cheap Chinese food in shabby motels. THAT would be what Petes job is all about - but luckily for him, he has a good customer paying his bills. It`s GlobalSecure Inc., one of the biggest insurance companies on the East Coast. More exactly, it`s Samantha "Sam" Miller who runs their investigation department on insurance fraud. She`s tough, she`s intelligent, she`s better than Pete. By far better. But due to the companies Code of Conduct and some very nasty ethic rules, she`s prevented from taking, erm, "semi-legal" steps to gain essential information and proofs. That`s where Pete steps in - for 500 bucks per day + expenses + a nice 20% share of the money the company saves with whatever Pete finds out.

Into the Dark is a playable B-Movie, a trash experience composed out of 60% humor, 30% horror and 10% technical flaws. Enjoy!

  • 11 Levels of pure madness
  • 15 different guns & weaponized items
  • Soundtrack featuring Nox Arcana
  • 67 puzzles
  • 238 lovely clipping errors ²
  • 35 sophisticated AI bugs ²
  • Guaranteed minimum of 10 crashes when playing through the game! ²
  • 168 additional glitches ²
  • Play it as adventure, as shooter or as both!
  • Explore the levels with your Oculus Rift Kit in VR!
  • Optional Controller support (XboX and 360 Controllers work fine)
  • Watch the full movie "Night of the living dead" ingame!
  • Free Halloween Minigame - a new one each year!!

² just kidding. and trolling. and partially true.
Attention:

Windows 8 users: As Windows 8 treats DarkBasic applications quite strange upon demanding large chunks of memory, we officially don´t support it. We have ran through the game on several Windows 8 systems, we have reports of many players beating the game on Windows 8, but we CANNOT guarantee it works on your side. Buy on own risk and RUN THE INTOTHEDARK EXE AS ADMINISTRATOR WITH COMPATIBILITY MODE WINDOWS 7

Memory Issues:[/b] Into the Dark calls large chunks of your primary 1.85Gig memory block. You may have to turn off FRAPS and Skype to have a proper trash experience, and sometimes you will have to reload an autosave to clear the memory. Refer to the troubleshooting guide for more information!
