What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Crowncity is currently in a fully playable state. You can conduct strategic research on all 200 types of technologies, enjoy 150 types of fascinating and diverse late medieval random events with their respective choices, and construct all 80 types of buildings. With a randomly generated map that includes terrain and natural resources in every game, you can create your unique tech tree not only through a static tech tree but also through the optional dynamic random tech tree, focusing on specific industries economically. By selecting development strategies based on geography and the natural environment, you can enjoy a city-building simulation experience that slightly changes every time you play.
Furthermore, we hope to make even more progress through early access, incorporating the suggestions and feedback of our esteemed players. We aim to create a game that is not only fun from the first play but also continues to be fresh and engaging with every replay, providing a deeply immersive experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to have an early access period of approximately two years. During this early access period, we will listen attentively to the valuable suggestions and feedback from our players.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In the official version, various content from the early access version will be enhanced, and adjustments will be made to the balance. In particular, the goal is to deeply strengthen various content, including the national religion and faith content, as well as trade content.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is now fully playable. In Scenario Story Mode, you can embark on a journey as a feudal noble, cultivating your domain and building a city. In Free Mode, you can freely construct a thriving late medieval city.
Will you develop your city with an advanced technology research tree focused on the textile industry, the printing industry, or another specialized industry? Alternatively, you can specialize in a university, generating additional tuition revenue from university buildings, or research cheese and butter production in large cattle farms connected with the waterway for additional profits. The theater may pay more religious theater taxes when built near a church. Enjoy your own focused industrial strategy right now in the Early Access version!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There will be a slight price increase in the official release version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are receiving feedback through various channels such as Discord and Steam Discussion, and plan to incorporate it into the game through updates.”

About This Game

Rich Gameplay, Build a Prosperous and Wealthy City in the Medieval Era!

Embark on a journey following a protagonist, a lord in the late medieval Holy Roman Empire. As a vassal under Duchess Konstanze of Dithmarschen, you’re tasked with developing an undeveloped fiefdom, adhering to feudal contracts.
Face challenges like interference from neighboring territories, harsh natural environments including severe winter cold, and the relentless demands of your residents.
Improve the city’s financial status by developing housing, selecting appropriate tax policy options, and processing and exporting abundant raw materials for profitable trade.

The Castle Area includes the natural environment and geography surrounding the castle you intend to build!

The castle encompasses a designated range around it, constituting the Castle Area. This area includes the natural environment and geography, as well as buildings, population, and dynamic pedestrian traffic.
Based on the area's natural environment and the characteristics of the constructed buildings, you can enhance the castle's production by choosing specialized annex facilities that complement the surroundings, and convert this output into scientific research points or additional gold income.

From the stained glass of the chapel to the underground dungeons of the courthouse... Choose your castle annex facilities considering the natural environment and buildings of your castle!

Castle annex facilities refer to the various options that can be chosen for each castle. These facilities determine how natural geographic features, environmental tiles or building tiles, as well as the population or pedestrian traffic within the castle area, can be converted into castle yields.
For example, you might receive a fixed castle yield bonus in rocky hill geographic environments, bonus yields for every library building within the castle area, or additional bonuses from water tiles like seas or rivers.
Choose the right annex facilities for your castle based on the natural environment and geographical characteristics, aligning with the traits of the constructed buildings in the area, to maximize your benefits.

Build Castles and Tax Offices to Collect Taxes from Residences!

Wealthier residents in higher-tier houses pay considerably more taxes.
Construct castles and tax offices to effectively tax these residents.

Customize Your City’s Tax Policy with Diverse Tax Policy Settings!

Finely tune your city’s tax system with various available tax policy options.
Strategically combine different city tax policies to achieve a synergistic effect in your fiscal strategy!

Property Tax or Population Tax: Which is More Effective? Experiment with Various Special Taxes!

You can levy a range of special taxes, including property tax, population tax, luxury goods tax, theater performance tax, music hall performance tax, art transaction tax, and environmental proximity tax.
Beyond collecting taxes, you can accelerate operations in production, industrial, and port facilities by providing subsidies.
If funds are lacking, consider obtaining a loan from the bank!

Analyze Your City’s Financial Health with the Financial Summary Report!

The game’s economic system involves a complex mix of various factors. Understanding income and expenditure is essential for managing city finances.
Use the financial summary report to check if tax administration is aligned with the development level of the city’s housing, whether resident tax income is sufficient, and if buildings too far from the castle are incurring high maintenance costs.

Increase Revenue by Exporting Goods through Trade, or Meet Needs by Importing Essential Goods!

Trade is conducted by accepting export and import offers through the city-wide trade menu. Exotic luxuries, such as spices like pepper or rare items like tea leaves, can be imported individually at each port building.

Sometimes, highly profitable special export opportunities arise. Don’t miss the chance for your city to earn significant revenue!

Winter is Coming. Stockpile Winter Resources!

The game cycles through four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. With the arrival of winter, the cold intensifies, and the need for winter resources increases.
Failing to adequately prepare during the warmer seasons can lead to falling down of the city due to the harsh winter conditions.

Freely choose and designate a historical or created religion from the medieval era as the state religion!

There are 9 religions featured in the game. Catholicism, Protestantism, Reformed Church, Episcopal, Orthodox Christianity, as well as Arboreal, Stella, Flamma, and Sorcery You can choose and designate any of these religions as the state religion for your territory. Each religion has its own unique religious policies and effects.

Follow the Engaging Story of a Medieval Feudal Lord with Quests and Missions!

The Medieval Lord faces a significant challenge: Can you protect the movable type printing technology, ingeniously crafted by a city mechanic, and, in spite of the schemes and disruptions from neighboring territories, manage to mass-produce and export valuable books? This critical effort could potentially generate substantial revenue and resolve the chronic financial deficit of his medieval city.
What will be the consequences of the premature invention of the printing press? Each story leads into another, weaving a series of captivating narratives.
In another region, known for its fragrant grapes, is it possible to develop unique grape jam technology and establish a city famous for its grape jam?
Will building a university and upgrading various research facilities lead to successfully monetizing academic and educational services?
