What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I want to get the game hands-on with the community. Early Access lets me do that while prefacing that this isn't the final product in terms of content. I believe what I have available right now allows for a lot of fun and will only get better with additional content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I expect the remaining work to take around 6 months. That's subject to change based on what the community values most and the total launch maps and killers”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Slasher Party benefits the most from the chaos of all the ways the game can go sideways. I plan to continue to support that by adding additional items to use against the killer, new hilarious ways to die, and more support for thrilling escapes.

In addition to these randomized elements I plan to add additional nostalgic maps. A close quarters Hotel experience, a romp through a 80's-90's mall, suburban neighborhood, and more!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“You and up to 15 friends can take on killers in the Campground Massacre map; A 3/4th square mile place to explore. There are over 20 different items to find during the match and a lot of different ways to die. Earn new victim cosmetics with score generated during the matches and defeat killers to unlock over 10 additional killers to challenge.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will not change.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is crucial to testing the fundamental assumptions about this game. I want a horror victim simulator that feels fun to lose in. New killer ideas, new map ideas? Items, deaths? These are all elements I'd love feedback on from the community. I've designed this game from the bottom up to be flexible and easy to expand.”

About This Game

Slasher Party is one solo indie dev's love letter to Slasher Films from across the ages, brought to life as a multiplayer survivor and escape experience.

You and your friends play the victims in the horror genre while a variety of AI killers hunt you down. Each match will randomize escape locations, hazards and all item locations to keep things fresh and provide new experiences each time. As you play you'll unlock more killers as long as you "kill" the previous killer or enough victims escape.

The Killers

Gather 'round your friends and slap in a VHS. Each killer is uniquely tuned and offer different experiences. Dread the dark when you face The Nightman. Collect red balloons for Birthday Barry. Run in terror from a good ol' fashion machete, chainsaw or kitchen knife.

Escaping

Although unlikely, you'll be able to escape from the killer in numerous ways.

  • Gather parts for the truck or boat.

  • Signal the police, who may come by coastguard, patrol car or helicopter.

  • Find a weapon and flip the script yourself.

  • Discover map specific alternate escapes.

Death & Hilarious Misfortune

Slasher Party is about emulating the victim experience in a slasher film. This means you'll have to avoid or lean into all the tropes of the genre.

  • Avoid tripping on that stick while in a chase with the killer.

  • Walk, don't run, when near Ol' Chippy the woodchipper.

  • When near open campfires be sure to exercise fire safety.

  • In the forests be sure to not disturb our friendly bees and be wary of beartraps left behind by hunters.

Did you know you get a bonus to end of match score for every unique death?

Serious Equipment

Surviving a horror film is no easy task. Be sure to outfit yourself with equipment you find during the match to give yourself an edge.

  • Find beer bottles to drink to give yourself Beer Armor. Just be careful of the burps and alcohol poisoning.

  • Find a flashlight to illuminate the environment when it gets dark.

  • Discover a map to be able to pinpoint your position more easily and potentially uncover other secrets.

  • Kit yourself with some sneakers to be able to run faster, longer and jump higher.

  • Found a boombox? Use it and you and your friends can have a dance party to increase your chances of survival in the film.

  • A radio lets you talk across the map to others who have their radios on.

  • Need to see through walls for a time at the cost of giggling. There's a bong for that.

  • More items and equipment await to support your horror experience.

Optional Killer AI Voice Detection

The host of each match will have the ability to toggle on and off voice detection by the AI. While the tension of the killer being able to hear you is great, it's also fun to be able to talk/scream with your friends freely when you find them. The choice is up to you!

Screentime

I mentioned this was a horror film right? They have to end eventually. Behind the scenes a value called Screentime is being tracked per player. If you participate in actions that would help your chances in a horror movie then your Screentime will go up. If say, you drink and get high the entire time, your Screentime will go down. Screentime manages tension and survival. It determines how long of a day your group has, how long you can run, how likely you are to avoid an attack from the killer because plot.

End Credits

When you return to the lobby you'll be able to watch your end credits. Here you'll find out if you won any random awards and what score you got.

Examples of Random Awards:

  • Thirstiest

  • Sneaky

  • Main Character

  • Member of the Board

  • Say Anything

  • Scream Queen

  • Here for the Zipline

Score is based on all the actions you take in the match and escaping only applies a multiplier. This means you shouldn't obsess about escaping, just have fun and try to survive while working on that plan. You'll be able to unlock new cosmetic-only victims by gaining score.

Retro Graphics Styling

Slasher Party is visually inspired by games of the PSX era to lean into the grit and ugliness of good horror experiences while leaning into modern engine techniques to give it a filmic style.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

This game seeks to replicate the American Slasher film genre that started in the 70's in a retro style. With that, expect retro violence, drug-use, implied nudity and frequent frightening moments as you play the ill-fated survivors of these movies.
