What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“A Lonesome Tale is still in it's early stages and it will take time for it to become a full fledged mature game of epic proportions. If you are someone who is looking for a full game, it may be best to wait until the game evolves, however, if you enjoy participating in the active evolution of a game and don't mind the occasional bug (or two.. or twenty) then look no further!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I am anticipating that A Lonesome Tale should be released in full by October 2025. Be aware, the game could release earlier than expected (or later) depending on how development goes and the feedback I get from the community.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of the game is expected to encompass the full VISION I have for the game, which would include hundreds of heroes, NPCs, enemies and items, an overland town/map, more dungeon locations and a refined end-game that will (hopefully) keep you all entertained for many, many, many hours!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, all features that have been implemented are listed on the 'About This Game' section on the Steam Page. Any new features that are added will be listed there, so check back regularly!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. There are no plans to change the price of the game from when it becomes available in Early Access until it is a full-fledged, mature release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback will be encouraged by the Early Access community to help mold and shape this game into something great. I'm not the only one with the ideas here :)”

About This Game

*** EARLY ACCESS WARNING ***

A Lonesome Tale is, at this point in time, VERY early access and is limited in both content and mechanics. With that said, the game IS seeing regular updates (almost nightly). If you are looking for a full game, or early access titles turn you off, I would recommend waiting until A Lonesome Tale becomes a bit more 'cooked'. However, if you want to take part in the evolution of a new roguelike and don't mind the occasional game-breaking bug, then A Lonesome Tale may indeed tickle your fancy!

We are currently looking at releasing the game in its earliest form this October 2024! Check back for more updates or follow the devlogs over on my Patreon.

A Lonesome Tale is the newest spiffy title by Scribed Skull Studios! (a.k.a. little ol' me) set to release into Early Access VERY soon! It's a dungeon-crawaler roguelike/town builder that takes inspiration from some of my all-time favorites such as Nethack and TOME with plenty of enemies, items and useless 'skillz'!

In its current state, A Lonesome Tale features:

  • Completely randomized dungeon levels for added 'spiffiness'!

  • Collectible items for crafting!

  • Fight by way of melee & ranged weapons, or devastate your foes with forbidden magick!

  • Randomized attributes for each item, enemy and hero.

  • An elaborate stats system shared between all heroes and enemies!

  • A day and night cycle with fancy lighting!

  • Permadeath... but not quite! Continue your quest as someone new each and every time you bite the big one!

  • A save game system that doesn't break with updates!

  • A nice sized overland map where you can gather resources and build until it hurts.

  • A store system! Sell all the spoils of war and buy useless trinkets!

  • A crafting system that rewards inquisitive minds!

  • A construction system that allows you to build and manage your own town; if you build it, they will come!

There will be plenty more to come, so stay tuned!
