What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We here at Picsonix.Studios have decided to launch Planet Iridium in Early Access, due to the development of Planet Iridium being done mainly by one member.
At present Planet Iridium's development team is comprized out of 2 members .
One member is focusing on story writing, coding, modelling, production and marketing etc.
And the other member focuses on assisting with minor UI art but mainly on editing covering : spelling and grammar over all bases .

With the launch of Planet Iridium in Early Access, our hope is for it to give us the ability to not only expand our team of developers, but also finish and expand on the already extensive gameplay lore and storylines along with the gameplay systems the game has to offer.

It will also give us the opportunity to take on the project as a permanent occupation due to one of our team members currently being unemployed and the other working a part-time job.

With launching in Early Access as well as help and support from the community, we hope to deliver a final game title that will not only bring enjoyment and keep the players on the edge of their seats but will also help give us the ability to compete with other big gaming titles.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Planet Iridium has been in development, for the past 7 month with our plan to launch Planet Iridium's, Alpha Version (v 0.1) in August 2023.

As it's standing Planet Iridium's initial launch will include a basic, small introduction to the main storyline and will have minor base systems in place like: building and repair, harvesting and resource collection, minor manufacturing as well as crafting of low and medium tier resources and parts, a small segment of the storyline and the basic groundwork for our exploration and close-quarters combat ( CQC ) systems.

The plan for Planet Iridium is to hopefully deliver an update on a weekly basis that covers minor updates on pre-existing systems or bug fixing updates (IF NEEDED) as well as a major update each month, focusing on a new main system in the game. With regards to the state of Planet Iridium now, we are unsure if the building system will be released with the first release of the game or if it will follow with the first major update of the game (v 0.2)

Our current PLANS with regards to Planet Iridium's main updates are as follows:

Update 1 (v 0.2): Will include a third person building system, basic recruitment and automation, expansion on other current systems like crafting, manufacturing and combat.

Update 2 (v 0.3): Will focus mainly on the expansion of the main storyline as well as implementing a colony building system, containing main aspects and systems of building a colony such as building of key point structures, farming, trading and training for combat .

Update 3 (v 0.4): Will focus on player skills and abilities, which will add new aesthetic and tactical upgrades to the player as well as a fully equipped base and player customization systems ranging from different mesh designs, skins and colour palettes . Along with that we will seek help from the community to improve on quality of live features such as improvements in certain systems and as well as adding things like decor and accessories that can be built, crafted or obtained through special tasks.

Update 4 (v 0.5: Will focus around economy and trading systems between outposts, neighbouring factions and as well as Earth.

Update 5 (v 0.6): Will present final segment of the main storyline as well as the introduction of medium to long range combat systems.

Update 6 (v 0.7): Will contain the final added features to the building, crafting and automation systems, along with more community assisted customization features.

Update 7 (v 0.8): Will include raiders and bandits into the game as well as defensive building systems and more AI systems to robots and defensive systems.

Update 8 (v 0.9): Will contain an introduction to the other 2 storylines that's planned for Planet Iridium, these storylines will be playable up to a point within the game, however afterwards a DLC will be required.

Update 9: The final release of the game will be focused just on community feedback and refining or removing of systems might appear in this launch as well as community requested features might be added.

* All this is subject to change dependant on a few factors like community feedback and team growth.

The main plan is for Planet Iridium's Early Access state to be completed by end of May 2024, however dependant on team growth and other complications that could occur it could result in the prolongment of the set date or significantly speed it up.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Planet Iridium at its current state contains most of the base systems such as (crafting, harvesting, resource collection, close-quarters combat / 'CQC' and basic player stat system ), alongside that the game also contains a handful of semi-procedural based biomes as well as a base introduction to the main storyline.

The final release of the game will have the exact same systems in place, but we are planned to expand and refine these systems further.

The following systems that we plan to have in the finished release of the game is as follow:

* Automation system
* Logistics system
* Trading system
* Procedural economy system
* Colony and base building system
* Recruitment system
* Training system
* Task management system

As for the current state of the player's systems, it has a spatially based inventory with basic survival systems in place such as health and stamina.

The final plan for the character systems will include the following to further improve and customize gameplay styles and scenarios:

* Maintenance and energy management systems
* Skill and ability trees
* Upgrades

Our hope is that with the input from the community, all of these aspects and systems will have full customization implemented regards to the look and feel of each system.

And finally our plans are to have a fully completed storyline in the game alongside the implementation of multiplayer.

Do note that everything that is stated above, is not set in stone.
Due to the game being in Early Access it is subject to change .

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Planet Iridium at its current state contains most of the base systems such as (crafting, harvesting, resource collection, close-quarters combat / 'CQC' and basic player stat system ), alongside that the game also contains a handful of semi-procedural based biomes as well as a base introduction to the main storyline.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Our current planning with regards to pricing is to keep it standard with other games in our genre and game state (Early Access).
As new updates come out and the final version of the game is released, there will be a slight increase in price that can be expected.
After all making games is challenging and takes a long duration, so we believe that as quality and content increases, so should the rewards.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our current plans with making the community apart of the development of the game focuses mainly on videos and streaming on our YouTube channel. As well as our Discord channel.
As time progresses we are planned on releasing polls on our Discord, where the community can vote on specific design features or systems as well as hosting small events where community members will have the ability to submit artwork and/or meshes.
After an evaluation, dependent on the event, the winner will receive a prize, credits in the game's credit list and some in-game perks as well as getting their work implemented in the game.

* Community members will also have the ability to request new features and/or systems on our Discord channel and if it receives enough votes, we will implement the new requested feature and/or system.”

About This Game

Planet Iridium is a third-person, top-down style game that sets focus
on colonizing a planet called Planet B58, better known as Planet Iridium.
Planet Iridium is a fantasy, sci-fi style game that focuses on multiple
gameplay aspects.

Our end goal is to have 3 major storylines that will have their
own set of challenges and scenarios.

Planet Iridium has 1 storyline available that's playable due to it being in Alpha.

In this play-through your main objective is to restore a run-down, abandoned facility.
Gather the necessary components to finally construct your very own colony.
With the end goal being to set up a massive intergalactic trade route with Earth.
You will also be challenged with having to fend off opposing raiders and bandits, while keeping Planet B58's inhabitants at bay.
In this game you will also have to focus on farming, building, production, logistics and
your very own players' survival, because even though this planet may appear all serene and breathtaking on the outside,
once you look a little closer and stay a little longer, it will start to show you its true colours and secrets within.

"No matter what, always remember, that you're never alone".

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

In Planet Iridium you'll stumble across hostile enemies on a frequent basis throughout the game.
Due to Planet Iridium being set in a semi-fantasy theme, gore and blood are at a minimum and violence can be depicted as more cartoonish than realistic .
These types of violence can be seen throughout the gameplay with either a melee weapon or gun.
