Why Early Access?

“I love rolling out games together with the community. Love of Magic was released in Act-sized chunks, with 32 major releases and a large number of smaller beta releases over the three years of development. Building the game like that lets me interact with players, making the development process come alive.

I've also been one of the lead developers on Paradise Lust, and have really enjoyed using the Early Access model roll out content there. Paradise Lust has had 25 monthly updates over the last 2 years, and is planned to exit Early Access next month.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Morningstar right now contains the two of six planned acts; for Love of Magic I released a new update every 6-8 weeks, and I hope to continue that cadence for Morningstar. Like in Love of Magic, I'll be alternating "story releases" (which advance the in-game calendar) and "world releases" (which build optional side quests and sandbox content).

That puts Morningstar: Book of the Fallen's planned release ~12 months away.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The current version features two out of the planned 6 acts; the full release is planned to add additional story, expand the sandbox and improve the combat system.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The build at Early Access contains the two first Act of content, with 40 ingame days and approximately 60 days worth of optional side-content. It'll take about 4-5 hours to fully explore. There's also a combat system with upgrades and a number of side quest lines to pursue.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Early Access is offered at a special discount; thanks for helping make the game come alive.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I love releasing smaller beta updates for play-testing, with updates once or twice a week on the Development branch of the game. There's a vibrant Discord community (https://discord.gg/NQrQrht) that helps test, give feedback and theorycraft about the game. Every 6-8 weeks I plan to release a larger self-contained update for players who want to play a more polished and longer release.”
