What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I believe that the game will do better in Early Access because it makes it less stressful for me as the developer as it gives me more freedom with what I make. This way if I think I might add one feature but it does not fit well in the game, I won't be locked in on that and there will be a bit more leeway when it comes to adding/removing features.

Another reason why the game is Early Access is due to time constraints, I still expect to regularly update the game and I plan to do so for a long time, but I likely will not be working on it 24/7, so content might take a bit longer to release in Early Access versus a full release. There are also many features that I have planned or want to add and I can't in my own mind consider it as a Full Release until I get those finished.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Early Access will likely last quite awhile, but it all depends on how fast features get implemented, bugs get discovered and patched, etc. We currently have no estimated date for leaving Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to be less buggy (although obviously that's also the goal for the Early Access version) and include many more features including localization for the game to be enjoyed by non-English speakers. We plan on adding many new enemies, different types of ores, lots of new core features, more story elements, more NPCs, etc.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is currently in a playable, stable, and overall a pretty solid state. Features are being added very quickly and bugs are being patched basically immediately. The game is still very early in development, it has a lot of potential, but even this early into development it runs smoothly and has plenty of features to enjoy.

If you'd like a full list of features, you can check out the About This section, it has a rundown of some of the key features.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price is not expected to change after Early Access, however, if there are larger content updates such as the addition of multiplayer, the price may need to change to reflect the new features, or they may be released as paid DLC.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community will be a huge part in the development process as it is my goal to read every review, bug report, and suggestion. Generally the players of a game have an even stronger understanding of how the game should be than the developers who make the game do, so suggestions are a massively important part in the process and I want to make sure that the community enjoys the game and doesn't have to worry about the game going in a bad direction.”

A bit about the gameplay

Work your way through cage after cage to escape your own mind. Living in a world of your own creation, you fight endless amounts of creatures that you may not even be able to comprehend. In a world where you are so fragile, it's hard to trust anything, or anyone. This game features a fully destructible world, you can build anything, anywhere, everywhere. You need to protect yourself from the various creatures that roam around, it's kill or be killed. You can mine into the depths of the world, getting ore, forging weapons and tools, and finding hidden treasures. If you choose to explore rather than stay in one spot, you can find different structures, some of which are underground, such as the Catacombs. Increase your power with various weapons, equipment, and unlockable skills. Buy items from Professor Jitters, the local trader, using cash and ciggies that you've earned from looting enemies and pilfering around the world. And once all is said and done and you've escaped the cages you will- Hmm... maybe I shouldn't spoil it. I suppose you'll have to find out on your own how this story ends!
