“PatchWorld is launching in Early Access because it is an evolving, VR-first creative platform. While the core creation experience is fully usable today, several systems are still being refined and improved. This includes tightening multiplayer collaboration, refining physics and gameplay behavior, improving performance and stability, and continuing to develop social features for sharing and discovery.

PatchWorld has already been released on Meta Quest, and the Steam version builds on that foundation while continuing to receive platform-specific refinements. Desktop mode is supported but still evolving, and Early Access allows us to improve usability, controls, and workflows based on real-world feedback from creators using PatchWorld in different ways.

By releasing in Early Access, we can work closely with the community, gather feedback from active users, and prioritize polish and iteration based on how the platform is actually being used. We are committed to ongoing updates throughout Early Access and to bringing PatchWorld to a complete and polished full release.”

“We expect PatchWorld to remain in Early Access for at least 12 months. This timeframe reflects our current goals for refining and stabilizing the platform, improving multiplayer collaboration, polishing physics and gameplay behavior, enhancing desktop usability, and continuing to develop social features based on community feedback ahead of a full release. As development progresses, we will communicate major milestones and update expectations with the community.”

“In the full release, we plan to deliver richer creation tools and systems, a larger library of assets and interactive devices, more seamless sharing and remixing workflows, advanced multiplayer and collaboration features, and improved UI/UX for creators of all skill levels. While the core creative and social platform exists now, we plan to enhance stability, expand documentation and tutorials, and add deeper publishing and community economy features.”

“The PCVR Early Access build delivers the full PatchWorld creation platform, including functional multiplayer - the same core toolset already live and proven on Meta Quest. Creators can build and share interactive instruments and worlds, and co-create in real time via Live Sessions. While the creative feature set is complete, we’ll continue refining PC performance, UX, and desktop-specific workflows based on real-world use and feedback.”

“We intend to raise the price for the full version by 20% to 50%.
This will depend on how many new features and enhancement to the 2D desktop version we will add over the year.”

Feedback loops: Discord, surveys, and direct user input on creation workflows.

Playtests and events: community jams, showcases, live sessions where players test features and share experiences.

Shared documentation: the community contributes to a living wiki and tutorials, helping shape how new creators learn and use the platform.”

PatchWorld includes optional generative AI tools that players can use to create custom content for their worlds and devices.

Players can generate images, 360° skyboxes, 3D meshes, and audio samples by entering text prompts using in-game tools such as the GenieBox device or scripting blocks. Each generation is initiated directly by the player and takes a short amount of time to complete.

Generated content can be used to decorate worlds, create sound effects, and build custom musical instruments. By default, all generated content remains private to the creator and is only shared with others if the player chooses to publish their world.

Generative AI features are entirely optional and are designed to support creativity, experimentation, and collaborative world-building.
