What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“At this point, Crossedland is in a fun and playable state and I believe it is ready for input from a wide variety of players. I want Crossedland to be a game built with community input and I want it to evolve into something wonderful and exciting. For that, it needs to be put out into the world. This will also help me make sure the quality of the game is what it needs to be and locate any other bugs playtesters may have missed.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I don't know for sure. I've been working on Crossedland almost nonstop for three years now and I would anticipate there are at least two more years before I'd think of it as being at 1.0.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to keep the base of the game and the loop of gameplay about the same as it is now with new arena types, more enemies and bosses, and an expanded story. I would also like to have several hundred weapons and several hundred pieces of furniture to use so you can completely customize your island.

I also want to expand the crafting system with more recipes and increase the number of NPCs that are recruitable to at least 20. Another feature that I want to have will be recruiting a team to send into arenas and bring materials back.

Lastly, I want to increase the number of abilities and upgrades available so the player can have a character that fits their playstyle.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, the game has several dozen different arenas to go into, a town to visit, over a hundred pieces of furniture to place, seven NPCs to bring back to your island, 18 different fighting styles, over a hundred weapons, a couple of dozen enemies to battle, over a hundred crafting and cooking recipes, and four levels of arena difficulties to go into.

There are also half a dozen game shows you can find tickets to join, 19 skills to raise, 29 abilities to gain from raising skills, and 11 upgrades to find including things like blink and double jump. There are also 3 bosses implemented to fight.

Recruiting NPCs for teams to send in the arena is partially implemented but not fully functional yet.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I don't have any current plans to increase it, but it is more than likely that the price will go up when 1.0 releases.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I have a Discord set up for Crossedland and welcome anyone to join, provide suggestions for the game, and discuss what they like or don't like! I'm open to all kinds of suggestions, critiques, and criticisms.”

Roadmap

About This Game

A mysterious alien civilization is watching you on TV, studying and judging everything you do. Progress through the ranks and reap the rewards. Make it to the rank of Grand Champion and you'll even get a single wish granted. What will you wish for? Wealth? Power? Freedom?

An action RPG at heart, Crossedland also has elements from several other genres mixed in. You’ll teleport into arenas to battle, gather, loot, and hunt then retire to your personal island for rest. You can bring back people you find and rebuild the ruins scattered across the island, unlocking new features, equipment, recipes, and upgrades as you go.

Combat can best be described as souls-lite. It can be fast paced but is also methodical at times. It can also be very difficult if you’re not careful. Enemies (especially humanoid enemies) are incredibly deadly at most levels if you don’t pay attention to them.

There are currently over 100 weapons to find or craft and 18 different fighting styles based on the weapons you use. From one-handed swords, quick thrusting weapons, and polearms to massive, slow two-handed weapons and bows.

More powerful enemies also await when you find the coordinates to boss locations. Each of them reward parts for upgrades on defeat and are necessary to defeat to progress to their rank.

You’ll go into a wide variety of arenas. Many of them will be open, sprawling areas, that can be several different biomes, where you’ll primarily gather resources to rebuild your island and create new gear and tech. These large arenas will also be full of enemies, too, so watch your back while you’re gathering resources.

If you die in the arena, you’ll lose everything you gathered in that arena. So, be careful if you’re low on health and see that shiny gold node off in the distance.

Other arenas include cramped quarter combat arenas where your goal will just be to defeat the enemy and gameshows. Gameshows range from easy to complete to incredibly difficult but can have wonderful rewards.

Arenas feature time limits. Some are instant death but not everything is a hard end to the arena. Sometimes deadly robots will spawn, lasers will drag themselves across the landscape destroying everything in their path, invisible monsters will attempt to hunt you down, or orbital bombardments will randomly strike in large areas of the arena.

You’ll also have to contend with meteor showers, lightning strikes, gravity anomalies, and other threats while traversing the arenas.

There are 20 skills to raise. Most weapon styles have their own skills (some overlap) then each gathering type and crafting type have their own skills as well as a few others like athletics.

Skills are raised by using them. Raising your skills is important as the higher your skill, the more damage you do, the faster you gather, and the better you craft.

Hitting certain skill levels also unlocks one of the 32 abilities available in the game. Stat boosts, instant gathering, and a chance to instantly kill enemies with a headshot are just a few of the many available!

You’ll also find various bits of tech to bring back to Vex who will turn them into upgrades for you (free of charge, because she’s nice like that!) There are 11 upgrades to unlock currently including blink and double jump.

There are hundreds of crafting recipes available from weapon upgrades, fire enhancements, and armor to food that gives you buffs and furniture.

Food will play an important role in the arenas, especially at lower levels. Most prepared food will provide boosts to stats and regeneration. Try to always eat before heading into an arena.

Some recipes for meals will have to be found or bought out in the world but a lot of recipes will be automatically learned just from picking up the ingredients. You’ll even be able to grow ingredients on your farm!

Weapons and armor can be upgraded if you find the right recipe and the right materials to use.

Some of the islanders can even make you gadgets like grenades that instantly gather materials or emergency escape portals so you can get out of an arena quick!

The ruins of an old community are scattered across your island. Find the right people and the right materials and you can rebuild the ruins, creating your own personal town. Each building you finish unlocks new recipes, new tech, new buildings, or several other things.

Custom buildings can also be built and placed anywhere on the island. Not much for building custom buildings? You can also find a variety of blueprints to create pre-fabricated houses that are just drop-and-live-in.

There are over 100 pieces of furniture to find, craft, and place on the island, allowing you to decorate as much (or as little) as you want.

I’m a solo developer and available frequently on Discord. I welcome anyone to join and I welcome any suggestions, comments, criticism, or whatever feedback you want to give! I want Crossedland to be a wonderful thing and I need your input to do that!
