Immortelle

A cathartic and dynamic room-scale trip into the mind of an artist in turmoil. In this immersive artwork of 12 minutes, viewers travel through different scenes and seasons that show both the soft and fiery sides of a fighter spirit. Based on a live show by composer Line Katcho.

“As the new curator for Church of VR, I would like to highlight 4 works, for how they point to different futures and different parts of being human: 'Immortelle' part of the MUTEK collection is made by composer Line Katcho who bends our mind with pure audiovisual matter: despite the abstraction this work conveys some deep psychological processes, a process of mental endurance, of transformation, ‘simply’ by allowing a totally new and inherently audiovisual and psychological ‘logic’ to rule this virtual reality, she too lets go of reality as we know it and manages to take us on a ride inside our selves.”

Immortelle is an abstract and figurative non-game artwork that illustrates the flights and falls of psychological endurance. It is a personal story told through the paintbrush of Virtual Reality in a fast-paced flux of sound and visual fragments.

Warning: Contains some flashing lights and quick camera movement and transitions which may not be suitable for photosensitive people.
THE TRIP
Contemplate changes of scenes and seasons, pave through evocative empty structures, wade through waves and mountain peaks, and encounter a presence in a vacuum. At times deep, at times shattering, at times peaceful - Immortelle traces the unpredictable range of our own emotions.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Line Katcho is a composer and audiovisual artist primarily interested in sound and image as demonstrations of kinetic matter. Immortelle XR is adapted from a live performance that was received with a standing ovation for its premiere at MUTEK electronic music Festival in Montréal, 2018.
