What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access allows us to talk directly with players who really want to play a physics-based PVP combat game! We will be able to keep players in mind throughout the entire development process and receive constant feedback that will shape the game for all players.

We want to make a great game and we are excited to take this adventure with those who join us throughout Early Access at this very early stage of development”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our plan is to remain in Early Access for approximately one year. However, depending on the type of feedback we receive and the content we want to develop, this may be longer”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We would like to introduce a number of different vehicle parts and logic that will allow players to create more types of robots. Eventually, players should be able to construct working mechs, helicopters, and fighter jets. There will be a number of online battles for players to engage in aswell as seasonal tech trees to unlock new items.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Players can construct their own robot out of a variety of blocks and test them in a special testing area where they are able to drive their robot and test out the weapons across a number of targets.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The base game and all of its features will be entirely free to play. Cosmetic items will be released at a cost during the Early Access period, but these will not give players an advantage when competing against others online.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have a strong Discord of over 2000 members and we regularly talk with players on a daily basis about their thoughts and constructive feedback. We are planning to maintain the Steam discussion forums to ensure we listen to as many players as possible and concentrate on issues and feedback which affect the most players.

We have a team of nearly twenty people and this allows us to focus some team members on new features, and others on bug fixes and improvements. We hope that the community will assist us in all areas.”

About This Game

Robocraft 2 expands upon the PVP combat genre with a number of huge features not possible in the original Robocraft:

  • Powered joints like pistons, motors and servos. Each with a number of tweakable properties. You can even make rotating platforms!
  • Scalable shapes
  • Blocks can be painted with various material properties which affect weight, grip and bounce.
  • Select, cut, copy and paste and store copies of your Robot in the scratch pad to use later.
  • Advanced programmable blocks including logic gates, sensors, timers and math blocks.
  • Advanced block-by-block destruction, tear your enemy apart piece by piece! Cut a robot in half, disable components and alter its centre of mass in real-time.
  • Leave your vehicle and navigate the battlefield, completing team objectives. You’ll be equipped with an assault rifle to defend yourself against other players.
  • Drive and operate other player vehicles. You can even operate multi-manned vehicles with friends.
  • Switch your robot mid-game to improve your team composition.

Build

If you can think it, you can build it! Construct your Robot out of blocks within a simple-to-use editor. If you’ve placed blocks in Minecraft, you already know how to build in Robocraft 2!

Building your robot can be as easy as placing down a few blocks, an engine, a pilot seat and some wheels! The auto wiring system will hook all these things together and means you can build a very simple vehicle that you can drive in a matter of minutes.

But there is an extra layer of complexity for those who want to tinker and construct the ultimate robot! Alongside base movement parts, you can place an assortment of powered joints like hinges, servos, pistons and motors for extra functionality. You could create spinning blades, crane arms or even hook up a series of parts to flip enemy robots!

Those with programming know-how can even create complex actions using powerful logic blocks.

Drive

Anything you build can be driven! Robocraft 2 uses the latest physics technology, so your robots centre of mass and movement speed will be affected by the placement of blocks and different material types. Building technique is very important and you can enter a test map to quickly test your creation to make sure it doesn’t do a wheelie whenever it enters a battle… Unless you want it to do a wheelie, it’s your choice!

Not only can you drive your own robot, but you are able to hop into an empty pilot seat of any other teammate robot and drive that too! Some creations may even have multiple seats which control various parts. One could drive the robot while another could operate a powerful turret.

There are plans for a variety of movement types including cars, tanks, helicopters and even mechs.

Get out of the robot Tianhe

If your robot gets destroyed or becomes immobilised, you’ll leave the robot and need to find cover until you can recall back to base and spawn another robot. However, there are some tactical advantages to leaving the robot. You may need to enter an area which is too small for any robot. Once in these areas, you will be able to activate levers, or switches to help your team secure an objective.

While on foot, you won’t be as powerful. But you will have access to an assault rifle to defend yourself. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to take down a robot, but there may be times when a firefight will break out in an area field with on-foot enemies and teammates.

Fight

Your robot can be equipped with a variety of weapon types ranging from lasers to plasma rifles. The advanced block-by-block destruction system will let you tear enemy opponents apart using weapons or even high-speed collisions!

Every time you hit an enemy with a projectile, you chip away at a blocks health, deal enough damage and parts will begin to fall off. This not only makes it easier to locate the driver inside, but it affects the structural integrity and even the centre of mass of the robot!

Fights will take place across powerful officially dedicated servers. These will handle all in-game physics. This leads to super accurate collisions against other players and offers new opportunities for different types of gameplay not possible in the original Robocraft
