VICE Undercover is steeped in the unique 1980s Miami atmosphere, from the neon aesthetic, synth soundtracks, and homages to classic crime cinema and TV, to - the cocaine trade. But in this alternate Miami, advanced technology existed much earlier than in reality.

Inspired by true events, the VICE Undercover saga spans across 22 Chapters and over 20 hours of gameplay. Every character and organisation you come across have their own and independent backstory to discover.

The gameplay primarily takes place in a classic operating system reminiscent of Windows 3.1. Players can explore an 80’s-era operating system with over 15 fully working apps, including databases, police apps, illegal cartel apps, and a music player resembling the classic Winamp.

The use of AI in Vice Undercover was strictly limited to enhancing a limited number of database images, such as some faces, objects, and locations. All images began with original photographs taken by the team, which were then used to create datasets for generating initial concepts. These AI-generated images were not used as-is—instead, they served as a starting point for detailed, creative transformation. Every final image was extensively painted, composited, and refined using original photographs and artistic elements, ensuring that all visuals align with the game's unique style and authenticity. AI was simply one tool in a much larger creative process driven by human artistry.
