What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are choosing to release to early access in order to receive feedback and advice on how to enhance the game from our peers and the general public.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until late April 2022.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Within the full version of RotKO we plan to feature at least 2 fully fleshed out levels, including specific goals to achieve within each level and waves of spawning, and specialized enemies for the player to shoot their way through.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current early access version features our tutorial level, which is a demo level for the player to soar around and get a feel for how the octopus moves, survives, and shoots their way through the droves of enemies spawning.

Currently, the player can move around, swing via a tentacle, shoot enemies, possess foes by latching on with the tentacle, and heal by jumping off enemy heads. There are three enemies in the game, each one with incrementally more health and damage as time progresses forwards.

It plays as a survival-mode demoing the game's core gameplay and design elements.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be available for free during and after the early access stage.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will check Steam reviews, and have a general feedback form that anyone can submit to.”

About This Game

An underwater lab. Relentless testing. 8 Guns.

It's time to take your revenge.

Revenge of the Killer Octopus is a level-based shooter all about fighting hordes of enemies in order to take your vengeance on the scientists who have kept you imprisoned for so long. Shoot through waves of enemies as you try to find your method of escape from this sci-fi nightmare.

Student Project
RotKO is a capstone game made by Messy Bed Productions, a 24-student team from the University of Utah's Entertainment Arts and Engineering program. For all of us, it is our first game published to Steam. The music was made in partnership with students from Berklee College of Music.

Take Your Vengeance!
You've been trapped within this lab for so long. It's finally time to break free. Thanks to an intelligence enhancing serum, you can use the power of your 8 guns and miraculous grappling tentacle to shoot down those dastardly scientists that dared to keep you imprisoned!

Possess Their Minds
Swing onto an enemy's head in order to take over their body and mind for a limited time! Use their fleshy meat-bodies as a shield to prevent yourself from dying, and suffuse your life with theirs with every foe captured!

Take Back Your Life
Slaughter your way through the lab, or face the consequences of failure. Will you decimate your scientist foes, or will you become sushi?
