Why Early Access?

“Early Access will allow players to help us get the game to release while we complete the additional content and features. We also believe that the game will be better for having the feedback and support of the community while we finish creating the content and polish.

The structure is solid but the game needs more content. We’re excited to finish making the locations, characters, and stories that will being the world to life!

Starwisp Hyperdrive is an ambitious project for a two person core team. But as an independent studio made up of developers who have worked on larger commercial releases, we’re familiar with complexity and scope.

“About two years, with a full release planned in early 2026.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version aims to be a complete, content rich world, with a story that takes the player through diverse sectors of space. They’ll discover mysteries, phenomena and lore, and meet all sorts of people.

Features planned for full release:
  • A story that takes the player on a journey through space and explores the mystery of the starwisps.
  • Crew with their own stories and quests.
  • Additional quest locations, such as planets, moons, space stations and more.
  • Additional locations that are not part of the main story, but feature their own unique stories, characters and quests.
  • Lots more character customisation options - clothing, hair, and a masculine player base.
  • More crafting - items, processes, and blueprints.
  • Additional robot types.
  • Trade – buying, selling, and managing cargo, which takes up room in the hold.
  • Customisable ship colours.
  • Space “weather” events such as nebulae, ion storms and asteroid fields.
  • Generated location variations - asteroid and derelict types.
  • Hidden easter eggs and discoveries.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“There’s already a lot of fun features for players to try, with even more to come! We’ve added a taste of the main story, to give an idea of the direction of the game’s narrative.

Features already in the game:
  • Choose a destination and explore the starting sector.
  • Land your shuttle at locations such as a space station, a farm planet, and more.
  • Fly your shuttle in space, find cargo and rocks.
  • Find asteroids and derelicts with your scanners. (And land on them, and find stuff.)
  • Customise your character - name, colours and hair style. (More options coming soon.)
  • Find or buy clothing.
  • Analyse, recycle, fabricate, or incinerate items.
  • Keep your captain fed - cook fresh food in the galley, or purchase rations.
  • Manage other needs - sleep, hygiene and morale.
  • Trade - buy and sell items from vendors.
  • Take jobs at the terminal - deliver packages or passengers.
  • Meet space weirdos.
  • Make robots!
  • Find and complete quests.
  • Grow plants.
  • Fix your ship - replace broken parts, refuel the hyperdrive.
  • Find codex entries.

About This Game

You've inherited a spaceship! But there's one or two teeny tiny little problems.... It's a bit of a fixer upper. It has a bad reputation. Government agents seem to take a strange interest. Also, it appears to be haunted. Aside from that, it's your cozy new home!

Starwisp Hyperdrive is a space RPG adventure that's more about the journey than the destination.


  • Choose your destination! Hopefully you have enough fuel to get where you want to go.
  • If not you might want to visit a trader... before you leave port, of course.
  • Name and create your character.
  • Travel through space and explore the system.
  • Take on jobs at various spaceports.
  • Fix your ship and try not to die alone in space.
  • Grow alien plants in the botany room.
  • Experience space depression!
  • Fly to asteroids and mine stuff.
  • Conduct inadvisable experiments.
  • Bond with your robot buddies. As in, you can bond... but the robot is an unfeeling machine.
  • Fix your broken machine parts and robots! Or scrap them, if you want. You monster.
  • Rearrange your cargo bay.
  • Talk to random space weirdos.

The developers describe the content like this:

Starwisp Hyperdrive features stylized violence against non-human enemies such as slimes and robots. Alcohol can be bought and consumed as a food item. Characters are depicted in their under garments when sleeping or showering.
