What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The majority of the game has been built and optimised. And unlike most games, I have a chatting system as a substitute to any actual story that a game would normally present. However, this system has only been fleshed out half way through the game. On top of this, the game currently has no proper ending and has been given a mock ending until I can build my Finale Update which is when I will consider this game finished and ready for a full launch.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“As of right now, there is no planned release date beyond the fact that the game will be considered "released" with my Finale Update. The reason for the lack of a release date is that my day job is what pays for my bills and sometimes life takes priority over game development. With that being said, the game is in a solid state to be enjoyed by anyone who is willing to give it a try hence me releasing it early access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The biggest changes that will be noticed from then and now will be what I've stated above. Fleshing out my chatting system and building my Finale Update. However, there will be lots of smaller, more whimsical additions that will be happening along the way in the form of side projects [I.E. New patterns to unlock, New levels to troll specific players with, lots of little and varied secrets here and there, etc.]. Finally, once I do launch the Finale Update, I will have it set up so that anyone may try any officially released version to witness first hand how the game has changed over time.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Other than finishing my chatting system and building my Finale Update, the gameplay itself is fully built, optimised, and ready for stress testing all the way up until the finale. But even though it's still being worked on, I can promise a full gameplay experience for any who is willing to give my game a try right now whether it be for Windows or Apple. I've even made a demo for those who are simply interested into what I might be capable of providing in a game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. As of right now, the game is priced at $3 USD*. When I release the next update that completes my chatting system, the price will raise to $5. And when I finish the Finale Update and officially launch this game as a full game, it will be raised to its final price of $7.

*Please note that other currencies will be adjusted accordingly to their conversion.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“If it isn't obvious from how I worded out the description of my game, one thing that I am greatly lacking of is feedback. Or at least the kind that's a little bit more...unbiased than the kind you get from friends and family. The kind of criticism to help me truly have a better understanding of where I'm succeeding and, more importantly, where I might be failing if I am. The best way to send this input is by sending it to mazemayhemfeedback@gmail.com. This is also the best way to inform me of any bugs or glitches that you may have discovered.”

Reviews

“"At first glance, I was happy to find Maze Mayhem. A 2D maze game where I can feel nostalgic for a few minutes and miss my childhood. And after fulfilling my need for nostalgia, I would delete the game. But this time, I didn’t, and I was happy that I didn’t."”

About This Game

Hello. My name is Mannu and welcome to our game, Maze Mayhem! Now while you would normally be finding a description for the game here, I will instead populate this area with a QIIWBFA (Questions I Imagine Will Be Frequently Asked). Enjoy.

Q:
A FAQ? But what is the game even about?
A:
Firstly, not an FAQ.
That would imply that the populous have been giving me feedback about my game.
Let alone being asked enough questions about it to have some that are asked so frequently that I could make a section for them.
As nice as that would be, I gotta keep myself realistic.

Secondly, the game is simply a series of small maze challenges that slowly grow more chaotic the further in you go.
And when I say small, I mean no scrolling necessary.
You can finish the majority of these levels within a minute and, in theory, finish level 50 in an easy hour...if you happen to be good enough.
Don't believe me? Take my half-hour challenge and try to beat my demo within a half-hour today.

Q:
Is this game hard to play?
A:
Hah, hardly!
The controls couldn't be much simpler then what they currently are.
But don't let the simplicity of the game deceive you.
After all, I've always loved a good challenge in the games that I play.

Q:
What kind of story can I expect from this game?
A:
Story?
Sorry to dissapoint, but my main focus with this game is building my ability to make good gameplay rather than what kind of story I can concoct.
Besides, who needs a fancy, smancy story when at the end of the day, it's just gonna be you.....and me.
Is that really gonna be a problem for you?

Q:
Can I really expect to find fun in a game this simple?
A:
Well that's not exactly a fair question.
I mean, how am I supposed to know if this will be fun or not for each and every individual out there?
Oh well, here goes nothing.

What I can say is that at the very least, I have fun with it.
From building it from the ground up to play testing in a systematic way to make sure everything works as intended.
Fine tuning every detail I didn't like until I did.
This is a game that, in my humble and very biased opinion, many will come to enjoy.

Q:
Why is the description in the form of a QIIWBFA?
A:
Mostly because I was having trouble making a good, hype, pleasebuymygamethankyousomuch, kind of description for the game.
So, I decided to do this.
And in all honesty, it feels more comfortable to do it this way.
All the easier for me to introduce myself to you.

Q:
So why is the game being released in early access?
A:
Because the gameplay has been built.
I just don't have an ending for the game.
And then there are the periodic conversations between you and me.
However, they are only built up to the halfway point of the game.
If you would like more details, I've tried to make myself thorough in the early access section if you would like to give it a read.
