The American and Australian troops successfully landed and, despite fierce Japanese resistance, managed to establish a beachhead. The Battle of Leyte set the stage for further Allied operations in the Philippines, hastening the end of Japanese occupation in the archipelago and contributing significantly to the overall outcome of the Pacific War.
