Five years ago, we first introduced Once, in Times of Chaos. Back then, we were full of passion and could not wait to share this extraordinary espionage story rooted in real history with you.

But in the days that followed, we encountered challenges far beyond anything we had expected—technical difficulties, the constant refinement of the content, and the challenge of making players genuinely feel that they were choosing their own fate.

We tore everything down and started over time and again, revising the script, reworking the interactive elements, and refining the production.

In early 2026, we returned for another round of filming, hoping to make the game just a little better.

It took five years—far longer than we ever imagined. During all that time, what we feared most was that you might already have forgotten the name Once, in Times of Chaos.

But what moved us beyond words was that, throughout those five years, we continued to see your comments everywhere—“Why isn’t it out yet?” “It’s already 2026—I really want to play it!” “Are you still working on it?” We saw every one of those messages.

We kept going because you never stopped waiting. The hours before dawn are always the hardest and most exhausting—but now, at last, we can tell you:

About This Game

The story takes place in Shanghai in the 1920s.

You will take on the role of an operative codenamed “Oak” and experience firsthand that turbulent and legendary chapter of Republican-era China.

On this chessboard where lies and truth intertwine, can you unravel the mystery surrounding your own identity and save everything you hold dear?

Will you give up the one you love for your country, or betray your beliefs to protect them?

Before dawn breaks, it is up to you to uncover what history has hidden and seek the truth of an era!

You have lost your memory.

Some say you are Song Zizhao, a watch merchant;

others say you are a revolutionary operative codenamed “Oak.”

But the fragments in your mind seem to point toward yet another identity.

You must step into the Shanghai of 1919 and search for clues amid the clashes between rival factions.

You must make choice after choice between lies and truth.

At gunpoint and in moments of tenderness alike, you are forced to question everything as you piece together who you really are, one fragment at a time.
