What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are committed to make INCOMING the most pulse-pounding, thrilling, and satisfying missile defense game that we can! To do this, balance is required. We want to get INCOMING into the hands of players early so that we can iron out problems in the balance and difficulty ramp, address exploits, and get player feedback on the feel and variety of the different defenses and enemies so that we can make improvements.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“1-3 months”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In addition to the aforementioned balance and difficulty optimization, we plan to add several additional features...
  • Powerups! Powerful one-time-use abilities that can be collected in the heat of battle and then used, or bought and sold in the War Room.
  • Content! More enemy types including the "Stealthy Boy" and "Flare" (and possibly community suggestions)
  • Immersion! Additional immersive details such as wildlife, underwater wrecks, lighthouses, and marinas
  • Hardware Support! A wider range of supported HMDs including Oculus Quest 2 in standalone mode
  • Performance Dials! More graphics settings so players can fine-tune their gameplay/performance tradeoff.
  • Accessibility! Player Height Setting (to have a consistent experience for very short or very tall players), and Sitdown Mode (so that players who cannot stand or have a balance impairment can still defend their homeland from nuclear attack!)
  • Internationalization! We plan to localize for Spanish and French, and may want to expand to other regions/languages depending on community interest.
  • Tutorial! We believe that INCOMING is very intuitive and doesn't require a tutorial for most players, but we should probably have one anyway just-in-case.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

INCOMING is playable, with a 50 level campaign, fully-voiced characters, cutscenes, and story.
  • Some levels may seem trivially easy or impossibly difficult. To address this, we've included a difficulty slider that can be changed before each level. Ideally we want to remove the per-level slider and have a per-game difficulty slider.
  • Some defenses may seem OP, badly priced, or not useful.
  • Some GUIs are very basic and need additional polish
  • Some planned content will not be in the early access release, such as Powerups and some enemy types (Stealthy Boy, Flare)
  • Does not support some popular VR configurations such as Oculus Quest 2 in Standalone mode. Significant optimization will be needed to achieve that goal.
  • Currently the position of the VR "Playarea" is immovable, so players cannot configure the game for sitdown, or for very tall or very short players.
  • Settings are insufficiently granular, meaning that players may have to run at lower graphical specs to achieve good performance than their hardware is capable-of.
  • No tutorial. We *think* that INCOMING is intuitive enough not to require one, but we should have one anyway, just-in-case.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Price will not change when we leave early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

  • Weekly livestreams about new content, fixes, and interviews with team members about the game-making process, streamed on Twitch, YouTube, and more.
  • Surveys and polls of players so that they can voice their feedback on what works and what doesn't! (Good suggests may even be thanked in the ingame credits!)
  • Weekly (or more) patches with release notes posted here on Steam, and we will be watching the Community tab for your content!

About This Game

The Democratic People's Democratic Republic of Bad have driven their island to the brink of ecological collapse, as they use every resource in-order to keep up with their free prosperous neighbors on the Isle of Glad.
Consumed with envy and rage, the Dictator of Bad, sets the industrial might of Bad towards total war. An endless supply of Bombers, zeppelins, and ICBMs roll off the assembly lines with one purpose: the complete and utter annihilation of the Isle of Glad.
Glad is a peaceful nation with no offensive military. With only defensive weapons, will Glad be able to weather the waves of missiles, bombers, and juggernauts sent their way? Only if Glad has a great commander to direct their defenses! ..A commander who knows the best tool for the job, knows how to use it, and doesn't hesitate! ..A commander who knows the best locations to build new defenses, and which technologies will be necessary to research to weather the attacks of tomorrow.. and the next day.. and the next day. Until Bad loses the will to fight!
Glad needs a commander like YOU.

  • Command 12 distinct types of defense-sites, each with their own unique strengths and shortcomings.
  • A defense selected by each hand, direct the firepower of your nation like a conductor of flak and rockets.
  • Thwart 6 different type of ICBM, from the heavily armored "FatBoys" to the target-changing "TrickyBoys" to the swarmy spam of the multi-warheaded "MIRV"
  • 4 different enemy aircraft, from the Bomb-spewing Zeppelin to the Defense-Jamming AWAC
  • 50 levels of pulse-pounding action
