What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“While this Early Access version has the entire central storyline plus one romance subplot, we're planning another playable character and 5 more NPC storylines. While we work to implement these, we also want to find out what players are best reacting to and what other parts of the game they're enjoying most. What kinds of upgrades are people interested in? Would they like more areas to explore or additional smaller storylines? These are the kinds of things we're hoping to learn from the community as we continue development.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We think this game will be in Early Access for approximately one year, but it could take longer depending on the types of additions the community is interested in.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version to include the ability to play as the brother, Shane, who would have a relatively different experience: he would be able travel to town and experience more of the historically-inspired world of 1860s La Grande, OR and interact with the people there. This would add a substantially different gameplay experience from the currently playable sister, who spends her time out in the scrubland amongst magical things.

Once completed, we plan for each playable character to have three complete romance options, each with their own full storyline. Currently there is one fully implemented.

We also plan to add more upgrades to the homestead and possibly skills and level ups for the playable characters, depending on what the community is interested in.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access build includes the complete central storyline, playable as one of the two protagonists, with one complete romance story arc (out of a planned six). All the central mechanics are implemented including farming, crafting, cooking, hunting, chore assignment, exploring and socializing. It also includes three levels of house upgrades, crafting station upgrades, the ability to befriend animals, and the ability to add the romance-able NPC to your household.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will have a 34% discount while it is in Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players can post in the Steam Community area; we also have a very active Discord where we welcome feedback from superfans and new players alike.”

About This Game

Veil of Dust: A Homesteading Game is a historically-grounded fantasy homesteading game about finding your way after loss inspired by games like Don't Starve and Stardew Valley. Accompany the Callahan Siblings, Shane and Áine, as they learn to cope in the wake of the complete upset of their lives - journey through magic, intrigue and small-town politics to resolve the sudden appearance of dangerous, magical beasts.

Note: The Early Access version contains the complete central storyline and one complete romance storyline with an estimated playtime of 25 hours depending on difficulty setting

Farm, Forage, & Hunt to Survive
Living in the desert isn't easy, but the magical abilities that force the protagonists to isolate themselves also helps them make the most of the environment. Farm, forage, and hunt to scrape by in the sparse desert of Eastern Oregon.

Unravel a Mystery
Guide Shane and Áine through the twists and turns of their search for answers about the monster attacks that threaten their fragile livelihood. Where will this undertaking lead these unlikely adventurers?

Fight & Prevail
A homesteader isn't usually well-equipped for armed struggle, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Stand shoulder-to-shoulder with your sibling to defend your homestead against magical monsters.
