What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're a small team with a small budget, and Early Access is how we get Psychonesis into players' hands years sooner than we could otherwise. The physical interaction system and the adaptive Police AI took over 5 years to build, and now that they're playable, we want the people actually playing to shape where we point them next, as well as deciding the overall direction of the game (leaning more into story vs keeping it as a simulator, planning what mechanics to prioritize, etc)”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to remain in early access for approximately 1-2 years. This covers Chapter One at launch, Chapter Two during the Early Access period, and leaves 1.0 for Chapter Three. That estimate moves with what the community tells us matters most — we will move fast, but we'd rather extend it and ship the right game than cut it short to hit a date.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early Access mainly covers Chapter One: The Prison Break, with on foot chases being the center of the action. The full game is designed to come with Chapters 1-3 fully polished, with Chapter 2 adding in vehicles + city heist gameplay, and Chapter 3 adding a PVP gamemode as well as the final conclusion to the story. Between Early Access and launch, community feedback decides which systems get deepened and what else makes it in.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Early Access launches with 7 maps (which all include partial procedural generation to enhance replayability), and the "Chapter 1" first co-op mission where players must work together to break free from Unified Rewinds. Full co-op and on foot gameplay is included, with 8-10 tools/weapons. The EA launch will feature progression through leveling, along with some alternate endings that include some hidden islands. We are also planning on adding in an "ascent" style of difficulty increase as well as a full suite of boat upgrades to enhance replayability on Chapter 1's release.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will increase slightly as the game grows. Players who join us in Early Access get it at its lowest price, and that includes everything through the 1.0 release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our Discord and the Steam forums are where development happens in the open. We'll be posting what we're weighing, running polls on direction, and pulling playtest feedback straight into the build. The shape of this game isn't locked — the community that shows up for Chapter One is going to have real influence on what Chapters Two and Three become.”

About This Game

Prisoners. Of the Mind. And the World's Largest Corporate Force.

Psychonesis is a survival extraction pursuit co-op game built around one terrifying truth: everyone you trusted was lying. Betrayed by the very people meant to protect you, you're now hunted by a billion-dollar operation tasked with the sole objective of capturing you and your fellow patients prisoners.

Your job is to get out. Stay hidden. Stay alive. Outsmart and outrun the people chasing you.

Gameplay wise, Psychonesis is a Prison Break and Heist Simulator, centered on the thrill of on foot and vehicle chases. It's a game about the run of your life — over rooftops, down stairwells, through chain-link and traffic — with a corporate manhunt closing in behind you.

Momentum Is Everything

Every escape lives and dies on speed. Master a deep, momentum-focused running and driving system that rewards clean lines, committed turns, and the nerve to keep your foot down. Chain vaults into sprints into a stolen set of wheels and take the pursuit onto open road. Break your rhythm and they close the gap. Hold it, and you're gone before they can call it in.

Fight for Every Inch

There's no fade-to-black when they catch you. Psychonesis runs on a full-body physical interaction system where officers tackle and arrest, players trip and fall, and every collision is physics-driven animation welded seamlessly into gameplay. Multiple bodies can tangle at once — and when a hand closes around you, you are literally fighting the physics engine to tear yourself free. Years of development have gone into making every takedown, stumble, and desperate struggle look and feel dynamic.

Your team can reach in and rip you loose. Or they can leave you in the dirt and keep running.

The Security Force Learns

Their officers are powered by Cyquential NPC Tech — a Reinforcement Learning based Behavior Tree system built on generative symbolic knowledge acquisition, developed over five years. These agents learn continually from their environment and progressively build more complex actions, meaning the security force adapts in real time to how you and your squad move. The trick that worked last night won't work forever. Neither will the route.

The Story

You were never a patient. You were inventory.

Somewhere behind the glass and the clean white corridors, a billion-dollar corporation known as Unified Rewinds is holding you and your fellow patients. Their highly funded private security is paid to make sure nobody walks out. Disguised as a psych ward, they initially promised you safety, paradise, and protection. “It’s for your own good, they said.” Turns out they were lying all along, and you fell right into their trap.

Locked away and trapped on their remote islands,  you’re now subject to their horrendous experiments. Like Alcatraz, your body has become the product, and you are their most prized possession. To escape, you must break out, and journey across their chain of increasingly dangerous islands, collecting fuel for your boat to make it to an airport located 1000 miles away. Each island reveals more about the truth of Unified Rewinds - learn why this company is doing what they are doing, uncover their horrifying secret experiments, and discover the hidden truth behind the whole entire operation.
