Lawyer Guy is a challenging, fast-paced 2D action platformer. No gimmicks, just high-quality level design and old-school difficulty, with some modern quality-of-life touches. You should play it even though it's not a roguelike.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“One of Lawyer Guy's primary aims is to be difficult, but also fair and accessible. The process of developing the game is one of continuous reworking and refinement. The levels, areas and features posted here, although functionally complete, will go through continuous revisions, subject to community feedback. In the end, Lawyer Guy will come out like a diamond, or high-quality lasagna.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until 2025.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the final version, I plan to develop more levels, optional bonus content, a brief but humorous story, and a non-linear hub world.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Lawyer Guy is released in vertical slices, which are self-contained builds containing a completed version of a single level. These levels are polished and contain all the assets (e.g. graphics, music, sound effects) that will be present in the final game. So far, only the core platforming experience and ranking system are finished, the extra context (such as the hub-world, storyline, and bonus challenges) will come later.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Lawyer Guy will always be free. However, later down the line, you'll be able to support me by purchasing Lawyer Guy Deluxe, which will include a small amount of bonus content.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Lawyer Guy needs YOU! If you have opinions about this game, head over to my website , where you'll find playtester feedback forms and contact information. I'll also be monitoring the forum here on Steam. If you can record or livestream yourself playing the game, even better!”

About This Game

Lawyer Guy is a jumping, shooting action platformer game in the vein of Mega Man™. There's no gimmicks, just high-quality level design and crushing old-school difficulty, with some modern quality-of-life touches. If you don't usually play very difficult games, this is a good place to start. Plus: a delightful demoscene/tracker soundtrack from some of the genre's most eminent musicians! It is also a role-playing game, because you play the role of Lawyer Guy.

Free, to keep, forever, no strings attached.

This game is a weird passion project and I want to make it available to as many people as possible. Therefore, it is free. Later on, there will be a 'Deluxe Edition' available to purchase with a small amount of bonus content.

Features

  • Multiple levels. To compare, a game like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas™ only has one level
  • No shaders: absolutely no shaders. None.
  • The motion captured performance of Tom Hanks
  • Probably the only video game about a lawyer ever made.
  • Portable checkpoints, so you can enjoy a checkpoint at home or on the go.
  • Canon Gay
  • The second ever strand type game
  • A ranking system
  • Not roguelike
  • Doesn't cost any money even though I spent years making it.
  • The Dark Souls®
