What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

Update 06/18/2023
Short answer: Limited time and resources.

As a 2-man team, this game is a lot to tackle. Being able to have your feedback while we work on this is a huge boon for us.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We can't say for certain. It depends on so many things. But we absolutely plan on finishing it and releasing version 1.0 whenever that's possible for us.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Here is a general outline of our vision for Red Sector:

You traverse through each sector, with the goal of defeating the formidable boss that awaits you at the end.
  • Each flight is meaningful. Every sector is like a flight in-and-of itself, broken up by the Mini-Bosses you encounter. The journey to each boss is a unique experience.
  • As a player, you are always trying to improve your basic combat skills, but your playstyle ebbs and flows with the items you find along the way. And there are many different sub-sectors, with plenty of opportunity for surprises.
  • Combat is fast-paced, boss fights are challenging, and the soundscape behind it all fuels your assault through space. If you really wanted to, you could get through all 5 sectors without any items, but it would be a huge test of your skills and reflexes.
  • There is a sense of progression via unlockable ships, items, and challenges and achievements.
  • Item functionality combines in interesting ways, so that even if you know all the items in the game, there are always new ways to combine and synergize their usage.
  • And finally, everything is tied together by a subtle underlying story.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The foundation is there, but we're still adding the soul to the game. Being a 2-man team gives us limited time and resources, so we're doing what we can under our limitations.

As of now, there's one boss for each sector (excluding the final boss), 3 enemy types, 3 Weapons and Hulls, a bunch of different Mods, a few different sub-sectors, and 3 ships to choose from.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We don't plan on changing the price during Early Access.
It could change after Early Access, depending on how many players we have and how much extra content we make.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“You can press F12 in-game to provide feedback.
You can also use the Steam community hub, contact us on social media, Discord, or via our website. (All links listed on this page, in the column on the right.)
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us using one of those methods. We'd love to hear from you.”

About This Game

Red Sector blends the roguelike elements of randomness, difficulty, and perma-death with twitch-shooter combat to give you a fast-paced, difficult, and highly replayable experience.

Please read the Early Access information above for details on the current state of the game, and how it's going to improve over time.

Roguelike meets Shoot 'Em-Up

Every flight is unique and challenging.

Random Ganeration

The map, items, enemies, and other gameplay elements of each flight are randomized. You never know what to expect when you start a new flight.

Choose Your Ship

Select from 3 ships to start with, all with different starting items. These will just get you going, as you scavenge for items in each Sector.

Build Your Loadout

Use whatever you find (or don’t) to build the best loadout you can with what you’ve got.
Various Hull and Weapon stats lend plenty of opportunity to tweak your ship build to your playstyle, according to what you find.

Defeat the Kuora

Countless alien machines and pilots stand in the way of your goal - the RED Sector.
Bosses (and Mini-Bosses later on) will test your skill and your ability to build your loadout.
You are on a mission, for reasons you’ll have to discover on your own. There’s more to these aliens than meets the eye…

- Fast paced shoot'em up combat
