What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Troop is a labour of love driven by a deep interest in WW2. We know how many people there are out there with a similar passion whose input will help us in developing the experience.
The Troop is developed by a very small team dedicated to giving the most value and the best experience we can, Early Access feedback will provide us with an important wider view on gameplay and content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently plan to have the game available in Early Access for approximately 12 months”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The planned full version of the game will include more content than the initial Early Access version: more units, abilities, missions, mechanics and maps. We aim to provide content and feature updates each month and the amount of playable content has already doubled since the start of EA.
Subject to demand and resources, we also have a variety of new features and play modes under consideration, including: Force selection/Skirmish mode, mission customisation tools.
Early Access buyers will ultimately have access to the full version content and features once the game leaves Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is stable and already includes a substantial amount of playable story campaign content: 23 scenarios, 20 of them playable as either faction. 16 Scenarios are also playable in Skirmish mode, where the player can select their own force and choose weather conditions.
Scenarios are already a fun challenge but we would like wider player feedback to help us refine and balance them.
Some UI and audio assets are not entirely final quality.
Throughout Early Access we plan to add more new missions, maps and units, the development of which are already underway.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We have no fixed plans currently re pricing upon leaving Early Access, and the price may change during Early Access as the game develops. We specifically look to Early Access buyers to help us shape the game and particularly welcome those keen to get involved early and give feedback. Players will see more content and features added regularly whilst the game is still in EA. Those who buy at any stage of EA will ultimately get access to all the full release game content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are serious about the community playing a vital role in helping shaping the game and intend to involve them as much as possible. The feedback we have already received from the community has been invaluable and proved quite how important getting players involved early is. We encourage players to engage with the dev team on the community hub here on Steam, and also via our Discord.”

About This Game

On the morning of the 6th June 1944 the Western Allies began the largest seaborne invasion in the history of warfare. D-Day would mark the start of a vicious campaign to wrestle North West Europe from German control. The following months would see the ancient fields, farms and villages serve as a battleground for new, lethal weapons that would become legendary.

The Troop follows the campaign of British and Canadian forces as they face the German Heer and SS in Normandy. Take command of infantry, motorised and armoured units in desperate tactical turn-based combat against an AI opponent that is challenging and unpredictable, but fair and fallible.

Simple, complete control - The Troop embraces the best traditions of classic tabletop war gaming combined with the interactivity and excitement the digital format affords. You have complete control over your units' actions; tanks will not expose their weak side armour with unexpected pathing, hidden guns will not reveal their positions by firing prematurely, infantry will not flee inexplicably when victory is a few heroic paces away. You are free to take your time... but any mistakes are yours and yours alone.

Your AI opponent has no special knowledge and is subject to all the same rules and restrictions as you. The enemy has no fixed plan and will vary deployment and tactics with each replay.

Choose your difficulty, play as you want - The Troop does not have one difficulty setting. Instead players can control a variety of feature and information settings to tailor their gameplay experience for the most enjoyable challenge.

A game, not a simulation - The Troop is born from a life long passion for WW2 history and turn-based games. Our aim is to give a little glimpse of that history through an enjoyable challenge. The events depicted are set in the broad reality of the historical campaigns, the missions themselves however are fictional and geared towards an enjoyable challenge rather than a strict depiction of history. We hope only to do justice to the spirit of those countless memoirs and after action reports that survive and continue to fascinate us.
