What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Tattered Banners is an ambitious systemic simulation. We are heading into Early Access because a world this reactive needs a community to push its limits. We want players to help find the weird, emergent stories that only happen when thousands of players start torching farms and bribing noblemen.

We look forward to developing the game together with player's input on our Discord.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The early access period is planned to be between 6-12 months, but may be extended if additional development is needed based on player feedback. Please note that we plan to continue regular updates even after the early access period ends.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The plan for the full version is for it to contain significantly more content - classes, locations, interactions, regions, missions, story, and more. As well as test and polish existing systems based on players feedback.

We'll also be adding technical things like controller support, achievements, and cards.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“All core simulation and tactical systems are ready - players can recruit, train, and equip units in their company, explore and interact with the simulated world, unlock new interactions, visit and change locations, upgrade cities and change the world in general, and play varied combat missions.

While the core systems are in, we want to add more content, hone existing elements to perfection with player's feedback, and make the living world simulation an even more satisfying experience.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We’re planning to increase the price upon the 1.0 release as additional content and polish are added.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We regularly keep track of playing statistics, and also encourage players to join us on our Discord server and Steam forum discussions (links can be found on the store page or in-game). We greatly value community feedback, and regularly incorporate it into our development.”

About This Game

Lead a mercenary company in a turn-based tactics RPG set in a living world shaped by your choices. Roam a simulated realm where cities rise and fall, noble houses vie for power, and every action - violent or subtle - ripples outward through the world.Raid merchant caravans, bribe gate guards, smuggle artisan goods, torch farms, spy on lords, lay siege to castles, and more - then watch as the consequences unfold.

A World of Cascading Consequences

Torching a farm may lead to famine in a nearby town, the appearance of refugees, and rising bandit power. Prosperous trade routes and well-manned keeps, on the other hand, allow cities to grow, train larger armies, and project influence outward - sometimes at the expense of their neighbors. Over time, these chains of cause and effect determine which noble houses thrive, which collapse, and how prepared the realm is for the war that is to come.

Varied Tactical Battles

Fight through battles shaped by where you are and who you side with. Escort a caravan through bandit-infested territory while raiders attempt to seize its cargo. Infiltrate a farm under cover of night to burn its grain store. Or lead the assault on a besieged castle, storming the ramparts and throwing open the gates for the army behind you.

Progression through Exploration

You begin your journey knowing little beyond how to fight and trade. By exploring the world, listening to rumors, and responding to situational needs, you can uncover hidden interactions that expand how you operate in the world.

  • A bandit leader, eager to ambush a rich heavily guarded caravan, will teach you how to raid if you join him in the attack.

  • A forest witch, angered by encroaching settlements, may reveal how to poison wells.

  • A mine foreman facing shortages may show you how to steal supplies to meet his quota.

Each new interaction will require influencing the world to the right set of conditions, and if successful will deliver fresh tactical missions and powerful rewards - but more importantly, grants you a new interaction tool to reshape the realm.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

To support development as a small indie team, we use generative AI only as a temporary placeholder tool during production. By launch, all AI-generated content will be removed and replaced with original assets created by the team or commissioned artists.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

This game is set in a fictional medieval world where the player assumes the role of a party of mercenaries. The player engages in battles and may kill enemies and possibly horses using swords, axes, bows and other medieval weapons. The game shows blood effects.
