Why Early Access?

“I have a vision for what Sunday Rivals can become, but I think there's a lot to learn from listening to the community who's actively playing your game and understanding what they feel is fun, not fun, or downright frustrating about it. Early Access gives me the opportunity to hear and actually act on feedback right now, so this game can organically grow into something the community wants to play for years on end.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“To build out the planned feature set for v1.0, I'd expect at least another 12 months of development.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“As development continues, I will be focusing on features that bring longevity to the game (roster editing, season mode), improve gameplay (sliders, implementing community feedback), and polish the overall experience (more animations, weather, stadiums, UI/UX)”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core football experience is represented right now, but it lacks depth at the moment. There's 32 teams to chose from and you can play against the AI or a second local player in an exhibition game. Rosters are balanced to feel familiar, so there is a fair amount of parity among the teams with a handful of noticeably stronger and weaker teams overall. In game stats are tracked and visible during and after the game, but none of it is recorded at this time.

Competition-wise, the AI is constantly being tuned, so there is still a mix of good and bad when it comes to how your computer opponent plays. For most players, the AI should put up a decent fight. The game is slanted to be offense-oriented, so expect a fair amount more high scoring shootouts than 6-3 defensive struggles.

The game's presentation is slowly coming along, but hasn't been the focus of the majority of my time. There are still a fair amount of first pass art, animation, and sound fx in the game but for a lot of them are representative of the direction I want to take the game. Most of the in-game menus and UI on the other hand are in need of a first art pass and are purely informational.

Overall, there's a lot of incomplete ideas to work through, but I think folks who are looking for something new and fun to play will hopefully be able to see the promise through those rough edges!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I'm planning on raising the price as new content and features are added into the game. I'll be up front in communicating when that will take place.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Your experience playing Sunday Rivals is paramount, so I want to hear the good, bad, and ugly. I've been running a discord for a few months now and I'm always available via twitter, youtube, and the Steam forums to answer questions, hear your ideas on where the game can improve, and take in your feedback and bugs.”
