Why Early Access?

“Well, there's really two ways of looking at this. The boring one would be, because the funding we received came with a time frame too limited to do everything we wanted to. The more fun way, however, is that we received funding to remake the original Wizard, which we did and you can play right now! Yay!

But of course, we want to do quite a bit more than that. While you can enjoy the visual and mechanical overhaul of the original campaign, we also want to add new features, like a Mario Maker-style level editor for the community to make and share their own, as well as a roguelike mode with daily challenges!

This is what the Early Access will be for, to develop these new additions with our community. Your input and feedback will be crucial, because we want to make the best game we can, not just for ourselves, but for you, after all!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“These things are notoriously hard to guesstimate. The optimistic ETA would be roughly 6 months, so probably at least double that, if not more. It really depends on how smoothly things are going, if plans work out, how well it's received, what other new, cool ideas pop up along the way, and sadly also our financial situation - because of course whether or not we'll have the means to develop it fulltime or will have to tend to contract work to keep ourselves afloat will impact how quickly things are progressing.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our plan is to extend the original Wizard with a Mario Maker-style level editor for the community to build and share their own levels. We also want to add a roguelike mode with daily challenges for infinite replayability. So basically, a lot more Wizard in addition to the original campaign, which we plan to expand as well, as new spells and enemies are added.

Additionally, we want to offer much more control over the difficulty through extensive customization options (think difficulty presets, rather than fixed modes), as well as accessibility options.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current state can basically be considered a full remaster of the original Wizard. It includes the original campaign and levels (approx. 2-4h per run), with upgraded visuals, a mechanical and design overhaul - including the oft-requested checkpoints - remastered soundtrack, and many small improvements to the original game. It can as such be fully enjoyed, while the Early Access is essentially to develop additional features (of course, since the game is in active development, bugs and breaks are to be expected).”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We will up the price a bit once the game leaves Early Access. What we're charging now is what we consider a fair price for the base version, and will similarly adjust to a fair price for the full version once all the major additions are completed.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Very actively! The enthusiastic feedback, as well as criticism and suggestions, from our fans is what made us want to make this reboot in the first place, and we hope you'll continue to share your thoughts and feedback, so we can make the best game possible!

Especially when it comes to new features like the level editor and roguelike mode, a lot of testing and iteration will likely be required. We also want to enable as many play styles as possible through extensive difficulty customization options and make the game as accessible as we can, so any and all feedback will be much appreciated!
