What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Beach Buggy Racing games have been around for a while, both on console and mobile, but Beach Buggy Racing 2 for Steam PC is a very new game for us. Although we have polished the core off-road kart racing gameplay over years, with BBR2 we are trying to create a fundamentally new approach to the overall structure, and we want to get as much player feedback as possible while we're working on it.

In particular, we are trying to perfect the ability to play cooperatively in splitscreen mode in just about every part of the game, from championships and quick races to career/story mode. In addition, this is the first time we have put a Beach Buggy Racing title on Steam and we would like to get as much feedback from our community as possible while we are developing it.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are on track to finish the game before the end of 2020. That said we want the game to be as fun and full-featured as possible, and if we need to take longer to polish it, we will. We understand it is very important to maintain clear communication with our Early Access players and the Steam Community about our estimates and progress. We're not going to make promises about dates, but we will promise to be transparent about where we're at and where we're headed, and zero in on a final ship date as we get closer.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The current version of the game is pretty close to feature complete (see below).

Please note: We do not currently have plans for online multiplayer. This is a local gameplay experience, with all multiplayer focused around split screen and single player controls. That said the game does work well with Steam Remote Play!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

(Updated 9/1/20) - The game is almost feature complete. We have the Adventure mode map almost wrapped up. All the tracks and almost all the cars and drivers are available. We got yer quick-race championships and single events. All of this you can play single or in split screen.

What we have left is a few more cars and drivers, another chapter of Adventure, and at least one more game mode (Tournament). Plus a whole lotta polish.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features. We have not yet settled on a final price. People who buy the EA game now get to keep it at that low price and do not need to pay for new content (although in the future we may offer DLC, but that's separate.)”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We welcome community feedback, particularly in relation to balance, control tuning, difficulty, and feature set. You can see for yourself we respond pretty regularly and actively to the Discussion threads, and have been maintaining a regular update schedule.

Please post messages, ideas, and bug reports in the forums. Please also be patient and keep in mind that we are a small team (6 people) and although we do read everything, we may not be able to respond immediately to all posts.”

Thanks to all our Early Access players!

Hey there! We just want to give a shout out to the amazing players who have participated in our Early Access development for Beach Buggy Racing 2. Your feedback has been so helpful; we literally couldn't be doing this without you. You've helped us identify bugs, suggested great ideas and pointed out stuff we wouldn't have thought of on our own!

About This Game

This is the Early Access version of Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure

You know the drill: you should buy this game based on its current state, so you won't be too disappointed if we all get hit by a bus and never end up finishing it. Which by the way is totally not going to happen (knock on wood.) Us getting hit by a bus. And even if it did happen at this point, I mean... it would be bad for us but would it really be so terrible for you? We're pretty close to done, so worst case scenario you get a fun, almost-done game at a crazy cheap price. What could possibly go wrong?

What's this game about?

BBR2: Island Adventure is a mayhem-filled kart-racer with an emphasis on split screen fun and game rule customization. Play Adventure mode as a solo driver or cooperatively. Jump into 8 player split screen championships. Tweak and save your favorite configurations of Powerups, lap counts, game modes and more with your own custom rule sets. BBR2 gives you the keys and puts you in the driver seat.

We're still in Early Access, but as of (9/1/2020) the game includes:

  • Adventure mode with massive interactive map, playable cooperatively with 1-4 local players
  • Championship and Quick Event modes, playable with 1-8 local players
  • 23 thrill-ride race tracks like Egyptian pyramids, dragon-infested castles, pirate ship wrecks, and experimental alien bio-labs, packed with secrets and shortcuts
  • 35 cars including monster trucks, moon rovers, sleek European race cars, and of course beach buggies
  • A motley crew of 13 racers, skeletons, robots and aliens, each with their own unique special ability
  • 44 yeah you heard us right 44 wacky Powerups including Donut Tires, Oil Slick, Ball'n'Chain, Dodgeball Fury... it's just a lot

Plus you can create and save your own custom game rule sets. Want a 10-lap race with only Bouncy Tires and Rocket Boost Powerups? Go right ahead. How about a drift contest with 4 friends and permanent Police Chase? No problemo. Make your own custom game modes with our Preset editor and then save them for battles with up to 8 local players.
