What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“SkyPrimal is a game about surviving in a prehistoric world, and survival can't be tuned behind closed doors. The pace of hunger and exhaustion, the cost of a mistake when a predator finds you, crafting balance, the rhythm of building a camp, all of it is proven by real play, not by numbers in an editor.

Development took a long time and went through a long pause: the war, and losing the computer the project was stored on, set me far back. The game is now being rebuilt almost from scratch. And I don't want to repeat my old mistake, disappearing into silence for years and then dropping something "finished."

Early Access, for me, is a way to develop in the open. Updates ship almost every day on the beta branch, and players willing to play rough builds and tell me honestly what doesn't work shape the game directly. That's how I want to bring SkyPrimal to a full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly two years. I'm aiming for a full release around late 2027 to early 2028.

I'll be honest: I gave an estimate once before and didn't meet it. So I'm more careful with dates now, and I don't want to make promises I'd have to apologize for again. The game will leave Early Access when its core systems survival, crafting, building, predators, and progression don't just work, but feel the way they're meant to.

What I can promise: development happens every day, updates ship regularly on the beta branch, and the progress will be visible. If the timeline shifts, I'll say so directly instead of going quiet.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“A lot of what used to be on the roadmap — weather, temperature affecting the player, story events, localization, co-op — is already in the game. So Early Access now isn't about filling in what's missing; it's about scale, depth, and polish.

For the full version, the plan is:

A bigger world — new biomes and locations, points of interest worth traveling far from camp for.
A complete story — from the first days of survival through to an ending, not scattered fragments.
A living world — more animals and predators, smarter behavior, hunting and danger that actually feel dangerous.
Deeper survival — expanded crafting and building trees, progression from bare hands to a real settlement.
Polished co-op — stable multiplayer, not an experimental mode.
Refinement — performance, audio, UI, proofread localization, and above all balance tuned from player feedback.

In short: Early Access gives you the working skeleton of the game. The full version is that same game, finished the way it was meant to be.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“I'll be straight with you: the game is being actively rebuilt right now, and it shows.

What works:

- the core survival loop: hunger, thirst, exhaustion, temperature and weather;
- crafting, gathering, and building a camp;
- a world with animals and predators, and hunting;
- co-op multiplayer;
- localization in several languages.

What you should know before buying:

- there's less content than the full version will have. Enough world and items for a few evenings, not for dozens of hours;
- some visuals and UI are temporary and will be reworked;
- you will run into bugs, and parts of the balance are rough;
- saves may break between major updates.

It's a playable game, and you can already see what SkyPrimal is trying to be. But it isn't a finished game, and I won't pretend otherwise. If you want a complete, polished experience, wishlist it and come back later. If you're interested in watching a game grow and shaping it along the way, welcome aboard. I update the beta branch almost every day.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the price will most likely go up.

The game is priced low right now precisely because it's still in development. That price reflects what it is today, not what it will become. As the content and quality grow, the price will rise gradually rather than jumping all at once on release day.

Everyone who buys during Early Access gets the full version and every update for free. There will be nothing extra to pay.

One small request: buy it only if you're happy with the game as it is right now, not based on promises. I'd rather have fewer sales and honest expectations than the other way around.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The most direct way is already running: the beta branch. Updates go out almost daily, so changes are visible right away instead of in a patch note twice a year. If a change made things worse, I'll hear about it the same evening, while it's still easy to roll back.

Beyond that:

Steam discussions and our Discord. I read everything and reply myself, with nobody in between.
Bug reports. For a solo developer, one attentive player with a clear repro is worth more than any test plan.
Debatable decisions about balance, difficulty and UI will go up for discussion before they ship, not after.

And the honest flip side: I won't be able to implement everything that gets suggested, and I won't pretend otherwise. The game has a direction, and some ideas won't fit it. But I will read every suggestion, and when I say no, I'll explain why.”
