What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early access provides an opportunity for players to actively participate in the game development process. This is particularly important due to the complex nature of economic games, where it is very important to keep the balance of the gameplay properly. This is very time-consuming, but can be done with the active support of players.

The time thus gained will allow us to realize all the ideas and create a final product that will meet the expectations of the players who have supported us throughout the whole production process.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Early access will take a maximum of one year. We want to make sure that all of the game's mechanics are working properly, which in the case of economy game is a long process, not to mention writing a script, translating texts, searching for source materials and creating rich and detailed game content.

We do not take shortcuts, so the game requires additional production time. The current version of the game includes first initial missions with a lot of interesting gameplay. Additional mechanics will appear as the game production progresses.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The game will be updated on an ongoing basis with all new developments in gameplay mechanics as well as additional graphics, interface corrections and additional translations of game texts. In addition, we are also planning:

  • we plan to add free missions for functionality testing and additional game promotion
  • political actions on the world map
  • military units
  • several different events affecting the game
  • a clear distinction between social strata and their impact on gameplay
  • encyclopedia of the game concerning Ancient Egypt

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game in its current version is fully playable. The Prologue at the moment contains three mission, which is an introduction to Ancient Egyptian history.

It is possible to build a settlement from the scratch, production of wares and food, random events affecting the gameplay are available. Basic diplomacy and the general situation on the map of the region are also available, so the game offers a long gameplay right from the beginning.

Additional mechanics as well as its changes, patches, balance adjustments, interface updates will be added to the game as regular updates.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Builders of Egypt: Prologue will be free the entire time.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Every single feedback counts for us. On the forum, discussions on various functions in the game have been going on for a long time, resulting in changes in the gameplay mechanics. All bigger and smaller changes were described in devblogs, which could be followed from the beginning of the game on Steam. This game is created for you, so your feedback is most important and has a real impact on the final product.”

About This Game

Builders of Egypt: Prologue is an economic type of city-building taking place in the valley of the Nile. The story starts in a little-known protodynastic period in which you will be able to observe the birth of the Old Egypt and finished with the death of Cleopatra VII.

A key aspect of governance is the skilful management of urban planning. This includes the careful design of street layouts, the strategic positioning of buildings and the consideration of their interrelationships. A well-planned city can significantly increase economic efficiency, which in turn can translate into increased city revenues.

The key is to create a harmonious balance between residential areas, production zones and sacred buildings, buildings that provide entertainment, but also special buildings that provide care for structures and people. In addition, aesthetic improvements such as obelisks, statues and gardens can enhance the quality of life for residents, making the city not only a centre of economic activity but also a desirable place to live.

Diplomacy and politics:

The Governor will face a series of difficult decisions in a dynamic and evolving political landscape. Meeting the demands of Pharaoh and other cities, responding to military threats and navigating the complexities of a hierarchical society will become routine tasks. These responsibilities require thoughtful decision-making, as a series of poor choices could lead to the loss of important trading partners and make the city less attractive to potential settlers.

Furthermore, a complete disregard for the Governor's authority can lead to a devastating civil war, threatening the stability and prosperity of your city. The Governor must balance these competing demands with wisdom and foresight to ensure the continued growth and security of the city.

Religion:

The influence of the deity in daily life will be subtle but significant. The primary focus of religious practice will be to meet the community's need for accessible places of worship, to ensure the provision of supplies for temples, and to organise religious festivals. These activities not only meet the spiritual needs of the population, but also play a crucial role in maintaining social harmony.

Neglecting this aspect of governance could lead to dangerous social unrest, comparable in severity to crises such as famine. Such unrest can stem from popular discontent and a sense of spiritual neglect, underscoring the importance of religion in maintaining the social fabric. Balancing the physical needs of the city with its spiritual and cultural requirements is therefore essential to prevent unrest and ensure the overall wellbeing of the community.

Trade:

Trade is the cornerstone of the Royal Treasury and plays a vital role in the economic stability of the realm. Relying solely on taxes for revenue can be challenging, making trade an essential element. It is in the player's best interest to engage in the production of goods for export, with an emphasis on adapting to dynamically changing prices influenced by the geopolitical situation.

This approach requires a keen understanding of market demands and the ability to quickly adjust production strategies in response to political events. By effectively managing trade relations and export strategies, the player can ensure a steady flow of income to the Royal Treasury, which is essential for the prosperity and stability of their domain.
