Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The development of The Zeta Orbital is a one-man operation. I'm releasing the game through Early Access to help me collect more player feedback before release and uncover more bugs and design flaws.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The Zeta Orbital will stay in Early Access until I'm confident that it's ready, and players have stopped reporting game-breaking bugs. I'm aiming to leave Early Access after three months of feedback (roughly March or April 2020), though as a solo developer it's notoriously hard to predict how long it will take to squash bugs and respond to feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“My plans for The Zeta Orbital change based on feedback and suggestions, but I expect the full version to have essentially the same systems (survival items, world puzzles, journals, computer interfaces) but with [much] more content available for each. Where the current Early Access version contains only a handful of level generators, the full version should have enough variety that four or five full, successful playthroughs are required to encounter all content.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game currently features enough level variation to ensure several playthroughs without repeating content. Players can make a full exploratory dive into the Zeta Orbital and out the other side, passing through 3-5 decks with puzzles, procedurally-generated content, and a handful of storylines available along the way.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I intend to increase the price halfway through Early Access, as the game's replayability increases with additional content. The game is cheaper at this early stage as a thank you for your support, and to hopefully find a few modders willing to contribute story mods!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community drives development, especially of new storylines (journal & computer entries). I'll listen to all feedback and take on what suggestions I can. The best place to leave that feedback is on the Steam discussion forums or the Expat Pixel discord server (.

I'm only one developer, though, so there's definitely a limit to what ideas I can translate into the game, no matter how good!”

About This Game

The Zeta Orbital is a first-person sci-fi exploration game set on an abandoned research station orbiting an alien planet. Explore the station, uncovering clues to the crew’s mysterious disappearance. They found something on the planet, and brought it back to orbit — but what else did they bring with it?

Welcome to The Zeta Orbital. Can you find the answers, navigate the station, and scavenge enough resources to escape?

A Rogue-(like)-like

The decks of the Zeta Orbital are procedurally generated, and you can save your progress only when moving between them. Scavenge precious resources to explore each level, but never take your eye off your oxygen supply.

An intricately-woven story

The orbital’s crew didn’t disappear all at once — and left their own theories about what they saw happening around them scattered in their PDAs & terminals. Piece together what really happened from snippets and suggestions as you make your way through the crew’s quarters.

Every system a puzzle

Many doors were left locked on the orbital, and many of its support systems are barely functioning. You’ll need to restore what you can if you want to escape the station intact.
