What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Katana Kata, is trying to be the best game in this setting, allowing the players the unique opportunity to experience history and sword combat of the Edo Period against diverse types of enemies. We are trying to make a best game on this subject. We hope that everyone interested in Katana combat will join us in Early Access and will support us. This community feedback is invaluable to prepare the game for full launch.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“A Samurai's journey is never in a hurry. So we understand that the game will be in early access as much time as it will take to achieve perfection. We plan to be in early access for 6 to 9 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The journey of the Samurai is the infinite way to perfection. Katana will be as shart and deadly in both versions. But we do plan to add more dojos, bathhouses, geishas, improve ai and add more opponents to take on. Giant enemy crabs are not going to be added during early access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Samurai's journey is hard and requires endless repetitions. Do not fear the enemy who knows 1000 blows, fear the enemy who practiced 1 blow 1000 times. Current game allows endless amount of fighting practice, 5 enemy dojos, gardens and bathhouses and multiple interesting and varied enemies.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“A Samurai's journey sometimes requires yen to progress. The more content we add the higher will be the price. So as Steam's glory.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Even though it's a Samurai's journey and a lonely one. We count on the help of other fighters to improve our skill. We will adjust the game gameplay based on the feedback of our players. As Japanese saying says, a 1000 eyes always notice more blemishes on Geisha's Kimono.”

About This Game

"Kata - a way or form to memorize and improve combat moves"

Katana Kata - is a souls-like game, where not only your timing matters, but also directions of strikes.

You will fight your way through a bunch of enemies on different locations to kill the former apprentices of your master and fix his mistakes of the past.

You will die a lot, but as any apprentice learn their way through the kata with mistakes, you will learn your way through every enemy on your path.

You will try different weapons until you find what better suits your fighting style.

Your fighting skills will grow, but true mastery is in your head in knowing your enemies and nuances of fight.

The core of the fight in Katana Kata is in combination of strikes, blocks, parry and dodge - pretty easy to learn, but with a lot of nuances to master, so even after a lot of deaths and repetition every fight can feel different.

This is my katana.
There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My katana is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it, as I master my life

Without me, my katana is useless.
Without my katana, I am useless.
It always cuts to the truth
I must be faster than my enemy, who is trying to kill me
I must cut his head before he cuts mine
I will.

My katana is my soul
And I trust it more than myself.
Life is better with it than without it.
Death is better with it than without it.

Today we start on endless path to improvement
To become the masters of our enemy.
To become the saviors of life.
So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace!
