What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game is a 3D fighting game with a unique depth block mechanic, like every 3D fighting game it has core archetypes, in ONAR we have 4 core archetypes, Mid Fighter, Light Fighter, Heavy Fighter and Bulk Fighter, we have spent years refining our current roster of fighters to a high quality production standard and wish to use early access to let the community engage with our characters early, and have access to our game before it's final release, this allows us to engage with the community early and consider early adopter feedback before release feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We intend to be in early access for 1 year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to unlock all 13 of our characters upon the final release of ONAR. In the Early Access version of ONAR, 4 of our 13 characters are available, each representing one of the four archetypes: Light Fighter, Mid Fighter, Heavy Fighter, and Bulk Fighter. During the Early Access period, we may choose to unlock and make additional characters available depending on our release strategy. We also plan to unlock the 13 unique fighting arenas available in ONAR upon final release; currently, only 7 arenas are available during Early Access. We may also choose to unlock additional arenas during the Early Access period. Although all fight modes intended for the final release are available in Early Access, an additional Story Mode detailing the origin of each character is intended for the final release.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“In the Early Access version of ONAR, 4 of 13 fighters are available. These four fighters are developed to the standard that we expect for final release quality. Although only 4 of the 13 fighters are available during Early Access, the 4 characters that are available represent each of the four archetypes planned for the final game: ZERO - Mid Fighter, NOVA - Light Fighter, RAN - Heavy Fighter, and KORE - Bulk Fighter. Each of these fighters is available in all modes: CPU Versus, PvP Versus, Tournament, and Practice. For more detail you can check the features listed in the "About This" section”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, it will be cheaper to play Onar at early access because it has less characters, this is one of the core reasons we want to use engage with community at early access as it is an opportunity to let the community play our game at a price that is more accessible to the user and allow us to grow our community.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The fighting game community is passionate, we want to engage with that passion before the official release by way of Steam Early access. The ONAR development team are excited to interact with the fighting game community via our ONAR discord channel https://discord.gg/hFQt5eXP - ,Youtube Channel - @onaroffworldfighter, and directely via email at rewindplaygames@gmail.com”

About This Game

ONAR

A 3D fighting game set in deep space, where contestants from 13 countries are forced to compete in a deadly tournament known as 'Onar.

ONAR – Gameplay

Onar offers multiple gameplay modes, including local player-versus-player (PvP), practice mode, and a single-player tournament mode. It’s designed to be a fast-paced fighting game that’s easy to pick up yet deeply challenging to master.

The rules are simple: the winner is the fighter with the most remaining health. Attacks are categorized as either left or right, and stepping outside the ring triggers a reset and a health penalty. Skilled fighters can chain attack sequences and execute command moves to deal greater damage and gain the upper hand.

Regular Blocking

Most attacks can be defended against with a regular block, performed by retreating away from your opponent. However, regular blocks inflict chip damage, meaning they don’t fully protect the fighter.

Depth Blocking

Depth Blocking is a more advanced defensive technique. A fighter can commit to a left or right depth block using the corresponding trigger buttons. Depth blocks:

  • Take no chip damage

  • Can block any attack

  • Provide a damage boost to the fighter’s next attack if successfully executed

However, depth blocking is a gamble. The fighter must correctly predict whether the opponent’s attack is coming from the left or right. A failed guess leaves them completely exposed to the full attack damage.

Depth blocking is the most powerful defensive tool in the fighter’s arsenal, but it demands either sharp prediction skills or lightning-fast reflexes.

Movement

Movement within the arena is controlled using the Left Stick:

  • Double-tap away or toward the screen to dodge in that direction

  • Press up to jump

Combos

In addition to basic attacks, fighters can chain together combo moves for greater rewards. A combo becomes available after successfully landing a basic attack, provided the fighter inputs the combo command before the attack window closes.

Ring Out

If a fighter steps out of the ring, they have 3 seconds to return. If they fail, both fighters are teleported back to their starting positions, and the one who stepped out loses health points. This mechanic keeps matches flowing smoothly and avoids repetitive wall standoffs while ensuring the fight stays within the arena.

Time

Each fight lasts 90 seconds and consists of a single round, keeping matches intense and fast-paced.

Win or Lose

The fighter with the highest remaining health wins the match.

  • A tie occurs if both fighters have equal health.

  • In story and tournament modes, only a decisive victory allows fighters to progress.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Onar contains violence common in fighting game combat created for mature audiences and some finishing moves that depict acts of violence between rival characters.
